The Kardashian's happened. The Kardashian's being aggressively open about their preference made the girls that looked up to them follow suit. Black men have always been the worlds biggest taboo and the Kardashian's, who are worshipped like royalty, tore the lid off all that shytIt didn't. I was getting clowned right up until the mid 2000s when I was in high school. Thought was just my age group finally being mature until I heard my white teachers gushing over 3stacks and Wayne. When Drake came out, alot of girls my age, 17ish, were clownin his skin color. Thats around when I first started hearing non-hood rats say "stop acting lightskinned".
Something changed around 2010, im not sure what but the world flipped. Suburbanized latinas started openly fukking dark skinned dudes...nikkas started wearing their naps to job interviews and still got callbacks... My piss skinned cousin told me he wish he had my skin tone. Theres a shyt ton of "smash or pass" vids on youtube where these kids rejected, to their face, for being lightskinned....but then I remember the "you so black you purple jokes going up."Im glad that shyt didnt fukk me up as a child
The black mens change in hair is largely because of Wayne. Early-mid 2000s NOBODY had dreads. You had a low cut, the microphone fro, or you had braids
And even the braids were relatively bold for the time. As dreads became more ubiquitous more nikkas started getting bolder about rocking their grown out natural hair. Ross did the same for beards
This is where the foundation was laid for what we live in now
