This mentality has held back NY for decades

Imagine if Hov and Nas came thru thinking they could never surpass BDK and Rakim :snoop:
Yeah but that's Nas and Jay Z. It would be different if Drag on and Sheek wanted to be the king of NY. When someone with Nas and Jay talent comes along they'll be able to snatch that throne. If J Cole was from NY people would let it rock.

Oh I get it...lol

I’m not interested in Kanye not Eminem for examples because their hometowns simply don’t have the history of NYC

We are discussing why NYC still refers to two old men as the Kings of the city. Jay-Z continued to make hits over the years

Nas hasn’t had a song nikkax was rockin with en mass since 2003

It’s 2019

Now you mean to tell me two guys who are past their creative primes still getting cited as the best the city has to offer isn’t an indictment of the lack of talent currently within the city?

This dude right here loves talking just to talk. And swear his ass be making sense.
What Dave is saying completely went over ya head..

I'm starting to think you enjoy being argumentative

It's like sports. If a nikka don't have accomplishments he can't get the rafter jersey and the hall of fame and the rings.

to be a king of rap you need the rings for the classics, some hall of fame verses and stats to get the jersey raised overall.

Not everyone that ball in the league and not everyone in the league is an all-star.

As far as NY their rap style might not have been relevant in a while but they always have one of the Top rappers in the game. from Nicki to Cardi (not saying I'm a fan) but the advertised demise of NY rappers is a lie. Check the charts year to year and they are always around.

Hov still going Platinum, his last joint was critically acclaimed, 4:44 sparked discussion within the culture, he got the whole city rocking Paper Planes, he still a hot feature, and he has industry power and even political power in his city, he’s signed a bunch of the legacy acts in the city to Roc Nation management and is involved with the new NY artist as well from having Emory broker A-Boogie’s Puma deal to having Bleek sign Casanova to Warehouse.

Jay is the king of NY if we talking for the young nikkas I give that to Boogie.

What Dave is basically saying is the new guys (himself included) gotta get their weight up FIRST before such mentions. Based on the accomplishments of the guys they're up against and due to New York's long history of dope rappers.
He's definitely not saying everyone should stop trying for the throne because those guys can never be surpassed.

Some of you guys take simple statements and go way left with the shyt

Nas n Jay was called King after putting in much work. Their king status wasn't based on "buzz" or being "hot"

Was Big called King because he was "hot" or had a "buzz" in the city??? Or was it because he had something substantive like a classic album that sold mad units and continued to keep his name ringing by dropping platinum singles from said album??

And since Big was the hottest artist in the city, backed by dope album, singles, sales n airplay, nobody batted an eye when he went with the frank white moniker which implied kony.

Where is the lie?
