Inflation just started becoming a concern these past 2 months, so it's a bit too recent. Homicides have been up since last year and early this year in DC. In the pandemic, there was an enormous amount of government aid in the form of boosted UE and PPP loans (which dudes were hitting a lick like crazy on). So I don't think these are economic reasons for homicides.

It just seems folks feel they can get away with their crimes either due to a decline in policing, or an increased belief that they can get away with their crime e.g. more widespread mask-wearing/anonymity.

The default reaction by some is to juelz and write dissertations about poverty, but that's a clear deflection. The juelzing set is afraid to admit that there is a hardcore criminal element within our communities that no program or social service can change. They can only be removed before they cause more destruction to the communities.

Unfortunately that element has expanded because of greater opportunities to commit crimes and more cover to escape punishment.

And just to be clear Baltimore County and Baltimore City is two different places. The burbs been hotter than the city in some places. Baltimore City numbers been the same for the past 6 years

The crime rate went up because they emptied out all the jails and prisons before and during covid. Most of the crimes if you notice are being done by the same people who seem to be bailed or be released into society to commit more crime. The cops knows whos out here running wild because they are letting them. These prisons will be filled up again soon obviously.
