I'm a depressed breh, doing my hobbies, going to the park, going to the gym, helped with my mental health.

I'm still very depressed but those things I mentioned provided temporary relief for me.

I take three different medications for my mental health, rather than make me :pachaha: it makes me feel :unimpressed: at best.

I also have intrusive thoughts and is on the spectrum which makes things worse. Unlike others autism didn't work in my favor :francis:
We need a hug emoji! 🤗 to you!

Very surprised by the lack of 'chemical imbalance' posts in this thread thus far. A very mature and serious discussion :ohhh:
These discussions is what makes this website great. When everyone can speak on real shyt and there’s no judgment.

OH
@ObsidianDev how long should he take a break from the coli? How many months would you recommend?
In my experience, it doesn't even have to be a month, I'd say 2 weeks should give you a shift in your mood.

Keep in mind though that in my case, I'm not on here as often as many posters are, so my detox period may require less time than yours will.

Regardless, this site (and social media in general), is a breeding ground for negativity and -- quite frankly -- meaningless bullshyt shared by miserable people who want others to feel miserable, too. "Misery loves company" as the saying goes.

For every one or two threads posted here on any given day that make me laugh, there's about a dozen others that make me think "Why would someone spend time scouring the internet to post this? :hhh::gucci::what::beli::why:"

Taking about 2 weeks off from here and then coming back should grant you new insight into how seriously this site and many of its posters should actually be taken.

Just disconnect for a little bit.

Be well.

I've been dealing with depression for over 15 years now. It started due to a triggering event in which I got jumped by 5 people on the way to a college party and the friend I went to this party with abandoned me and ran and I nearly was killed. Since then, I've dealt with medications that didn't do anything but make me fat and sluggish, I've heard some wishy washy fake ass advice from people who wanted me to stop talking to them and didn't actually want to help me, and until I come across a BLACK MALE THERAPIST...I refuse to go to therapy. I'm not talking to no black man hating black female therapist calling us "dusty bytches" on TikTok. :mjlol:

The main sources of my depression have come from
- Not having money/being broke and having it stopping me from doing what I want to do.
- Being Single/Lonely
- Feeling isolated/alienated in an overwhelmingly white city
- dealing with racism/anti-blackness

I deal with depression by:

- Making Music
- Skateboarding
- Collecting sneakers
- Buying clothes
- Talking online to people (cause I don't talk to many people in my real life)

With that said, I am so thankful for the coli, cause I can breathe on here and discuss the things I want to discuss to like minded people who can relate.

I feel a lot of Black Men are depressed...but we don't have outlets or support systems Black Women do...so we tend to dwell in very self-desrtuctive mindsets
And we're gaslit for talking about our feelings...made to feel weak...made to feel like failures for having emotions. But that's normal.

With that said, I wouldn't wish what I'm going through on anybody...but depression won't end your life. There are ways to overcome what you dealing with.

Didn't read the whole thread but just some quick notes:

- A ton of studies have shown the link between fruit and vegetable intake and depression, google it, clean your diet up, cut out the trash food and if you're really serious, try getting up to 8-10 servings of fruit and vegetable daily (look into a vitamix or ninja blender and you can make smoothies, ideally make it more vegetable than fruit so you have less sugar and more nutrients). In terms of your overall diet, look into Paleo diet or Whole30 diet. You want to be eating a diet with a minimal (or ideally zero) amount of processed foods, it's been shown to improve mental wellbeing.

- A ton of studies have shown that ~30 minutes about 5 days a week has improve symptoms of depression as much or more than pharmaceutical antidepressants, google it, and set up your week so you're at LEAST getting that much, but ideally a little more.

- Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep everynight, religiously. With that said, google sleep hygiene. Watch these vids to help get you started: Sleep Toolkit: Tools for Optimizing Sleep & Sleep-Wake Timing | Huberman Lab Podcast #84; Master Your Sleep & Be More Alert When Awake | Huberman Lab Podcast #2;

- Meditate. Try vipassana or TM, google it, see what works for you, but stick to 20 minutes everyday.

- CUT OUT ALCOHOL, WEED, PILLS, PORNOGRAPHY AND SUGAR. All of that shyt fukks with the chemicals in your brain, generally for the worse, and therefore fukks with your mood.

- Get sunlight. And if you exercise outside in the sunlight, even better. Instant mood booster that can stay with you the rest of the day.`

I've never been clinically depressed but I've definitely had low periods and life and those things I listed have always helped a lot, I can't stick to those consistently and not be in a generally good mood. You want to set up your life so all those things are ingrained habits.

But also, you may still need to see a therapist and deal with issues surrounding the incident you had, and specifically a therapist that deals with PTSD imo. FYI, also you may want to look into psychedelic therapies. But google the book "The Body Keeps Score" and read through the whole thing, and also google Matthew Johnson from Johns Hopkins. Things will definitely get better but you gotta consistently put in the work, no shortcuts. Good luck man hope this helps.
