I mean felons period. Not just Black or White.
Right , but minorities disproportionately make up "felons period" if u gathered the entire US prison population without respect to race, there would still be an unfair proportion of black people there. U can't discriminate against felons without effectively discriminating against black people

Hate to say it, but you are right. I think if we had honest media, we could inform our former felons who they are voting for. Now, with corporations buying up all the airtime all you get is propaganda. My points is, I want felons to know who they are voting for.

If you can't peep game, then I don't know what to tell you.:francis: For certain people, the question has always been how to prevent certain groups from voting. You can't pass legislation saying that certain groups can't vote, like in the old days, but you can say felons can't vote and then target certain groups using other means. Same for voter ID laws. Fortunately, here is an example of a "win" in regards to the latter: Supreme Court won't restore North Carolina voter ID law

Payments accepted Obamacare,paypal and livestock
Murderers should lose theirs for good..after all they took it away from someone else for good

Everyone else should lose theirs for a period of 8 years after probation ..or something similar...its deeper than the president..in some juridiction Sheriffs ,prosecutors,Judges are elected and in a close election for county sheriff you dont want the swing vote to be the bitter ex cons they put way.

But if your goal is informed voters, logistically speaking u could start at your local community college or something. Felons are hardly the only or even the most uninformed regarding the candidates. Do you think your next door neighbors know "the issues"? Doubtful

I THINK CONVICTED FELONS WOULD UNDERSTAND MOST ON HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS FROM THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM STANDPOINT. AND IF YOU DONT KNOW CONVICTED FELONS ARE SOME OF THE MOST SMART AND EDUCATED PEOPLE YOU WOULD EVER MEET HELL YEAH THEY SHOULD VOTE BECAUSE THERE ARE LAWS THAT NEED TO CHANGE IF A DEMORGRAPHIC DOESNT HAVE A VOICE THEY CAN SET LAWS THAT HURT YOU.
JUST ASK US BLACK AMERICANS.

Yea...........it's hard to explain. Someone who is free from someone who did 15 or 20 is a different story. However, we need to inform felons of our candidates. I mean the truth on how candidate a is a warmonger and etc.

Felons aren't sitting in darkness while locked up. They get phone calls, letters, TV and radio with pre approved stations. Plus word of mouth stories from the COs. On average their level of information isn't likely to be drastically different than the average young adult.

You seem like the type to watch cnn and read political articles all day. And that's a good thing. But I'm telling you that the average American does not do that. So you be judging from an unrealistic standard

I don't watch CNN because it's propaganda. What I watch is Al Jazeera, RT, The Young Turks, and VICE News. This is really my only concern is if they are being told the truth.

I think once you have served your sentence all rights should be restored.

I dont think most countries remove the basic citizen's right to vote once you have been convicted.

See, my point is if they in was prison most of their life they don't know what's going on in the everyday realm. I'm for them voting, but they have to earn that. For me, it's not easy just voting for someone. I have to research the candidate and etc.

Exactly what he said

This completely contradicts your OP.
On one hand you make it seem like a person being a felon means they should lose their right to vote by nature of being a felon.
On the other hand you say your point is in prison they don't what's going on in "the everyday realm".
There's a few things wrong with that when trying to remove felons based off your prerequisites.
1. There is an overwhelming amount of people that have never been to jail that have no idea "what's going on in the everyday realm".
2. In prison you aren't cut off from the world entirely. You still get news, sports, etc. If anything, being cut off physical from the "everyday realm" forces you to seek out more information about the world than you normally would because you're looking for a way to still be connected to the outside.
3. There is no realistic way we are going to make sure only informed voters vote.
4. A person that serves their time should be able to go back and be a productive member of society, with certain exceptions made for certain crimes, such as rape or child molestation, etc.

Explain what you mean by "earn" the right to vote :jbhmm:

Aight, I'm in Virginia and my governor just restored convicted felons voting rights. Should convicted felons vote down the line? Yes. However, I feel they have to earn that by being productive in society and etc for a certain length of time. So, what are your thoughts on this?

Basically, I don't think convicts should be able to vote when they just got out of prison. They have to earn it in my opinion.

How do you earn the right to vote? Who cares.
