QB is the hardest position in all of sports. Why do you think teams go through 20 of them to find the right one?
Brian Hoyer and Brandon Weeden have had multiple starting jobs.

It's hard but it ain't that hard.

That's what she said.

Smith had that one big play to Vernon Davis early in the game and then threw checkdowns and incompletions the rest of the game

Harbaugh knew after the game that you can't win with such a limited QB
Smith didn't play well but he produced two passing tds and zero turnovers. Aaron Rodgers Brady and Matt Ryan couldn't produce more tds vs same giants defense :manny: and smith ain't even in their vicinity as far as pedigree

:what:

This thread is filled with lack of context.

You have to have a GREAT TEAM to surround your QB.. Football is the ultimate team sport..

You can't just dumb it down and say QBs are overrated...
If you have to have a great team surrounding your qb, why are qbs overpaid like crazy?

The best all around LB of perhaps last decade or maybe more in Von Miller had to hold out after a spectacular playoffs performance in which he had a key role, only to get LESS money then Jay cutler Alex smith or Matt Stafford are getting, qbs that are not even close to elite at their positions and never were elite at their position.

Qbs are overrated and now overpaid. You can get like two elite defensive players for a price of an average qb

The biggest myth in pro sports(or top 10) is that once you pay the QB you can't pay anyone else and that's why they suck:mjlol:

The Giants gave Eli manning an 85 million dollar extension last year and went on an all time spending spree this offseason.

The saints gave Drew Brees 100 mill in 2012 then gave Jimmy Graham the largest deal ever given to TE, and Jarius Byrd the largest ever given to a safety

The Falcons signed Matt Ryan to a 100 million dollar deal in 2013 then signed the number one center and Sanu to a 5 year deal in free agency.

Peyton got a 96 million dollar deal for Denver and they went stupid in free agency in 2014. It worked out for them in 2015 though with the SB win

Teams are garbage because their drafts have been horrible for years, not because of the salary of the QBs.
So what are the teams that gave huge extension to their qb and afterwards won the superbowl?

Broncos last year I believe is the only such team :mjlol: and Peyton Manning was literally the worst qb in the league last season

This doesn't suggest you let the QB walk either. Granted the best teams seem to have the great QB still on his rookie deal while fielding a good defense, but you're never going to see organizations letting a Rodgers, Wilson, Ben etc walk. These guys are basically giving you 10+ years at a position that's difficult to replace.

Those teams not winning has nothing to do with those contracts though. It's all about horrible drafting. The Falcons 2012 draft literally is all out of the league

biggest reason why I want us to keep Kaep. We got him on a no limit sports deal that isn't killing us financially. I know he can be above average in Chip's offense. That way we rebuild the defense and get a couple of playmakers

The narrative why qbs continue to be overpaid is because they're 'instrumental to winning' . The facts show otherwise - after huge contract extension teams don't win superbowl s with their 'franchise qbs'.
Facts show that more teams built around defense go and win the superbowl more often than teams built around a qb

People telhen say it's a team sport. No shyt it's a teams sport. Why are you paying qbs more if they don't correlate to winning, acting like they do?

Average ass qbs get paid huge bucks for being average and even elite qbs don't correspond to winning it all.

This is all over the place. Does bad QB play correlate to losing?

let's take the steelers

Steelers were contenders every year with consistent great defenses fielding Neil O'Donnell and Lord Ellen Stewart at qb.

Sure you can say times have changed right? But last 5 times steelers made at least a conference game their defense was #1 three times, #2 once and #3 once

Last 5 times steelers had defense outside of top 10 they lost in div, lost in wc and missed the offs three times

There's zero correlation of great offense and playoffs success for them
There's clear correlation between great defense and success.

So again, why overpay for qb?

And this says the Steelers should let go of Ben why?
