If you don't have any legit, guaranteed options AFTER college I say go military...

First of all, you go in Officer... Not enlisted. Already a better quality of life no matter what branch you're in.

Secondly, student loans get paid off on top of being able to do additional education for free

Next, you get a decent check starting off. Not as much as you think but better than any person going enlisted with nothing.

You do have a 6 year contract (I think) but like I said, better quality of life. Better everything.

If you think you can deal with the military lifestyle, taking orders, etc., then I don't see why not

And definitely go Airforce unless you just want to be one of the guys, going in the field, etc. it still won't be as hard as enlisted in any branch but as a stepping stone I don't see how you can go wrong. Go medical or Intel, stay out of trouble, stay in shape and get your experience/benefits and get out

Also, I got out last year after about 7 years with minor college but a couple other things.

Got a job paying about 50k (turned down a couple 60k's for whatever reason) STARTING with nothing but certs and experience. About to start school (at most about 1300 monthly in my area) and collect disability.

I'm not balling but with no kids, no major bills, etc., I'm doing ok for myself at the moment.

That's the part that bugs me. I'm not sure where you can go wrong with a STEM degree but joining the military to me is a desperation move.

Here's why you should go Officer OP. Significantly more money short term and long term. Better quality of life and freedom. You will have better professional opportunities and connections when you leave the military.

Just make sure you go into the Air Force and pick a good job. Some jobs aren't very deployable and you never see a minute of any combat zones. I was in the Air Force for 6 years, had worldwide volunteer on my dreamsheet and never got deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan or Korea from 99-2005. The more high tech jobs are the ones that rarely see any deployments mainly cause it costs so much to train those people in the first place....And you're set for a nice job if you decide to get out after your term is over. The stuck for life thing and not having any options is all a myth. In my last 3 months my squadron was actually looking for somebody from my shop to go to Iraq and they looked at me. I told em I have 3 months left, fukk off. They picked somebody else from the squadron and I basically just outprocessed the last 2 months, signed my final paperwork on the last day, and went on my way without ever getting any calls back.

It not a hour, that depends on the base and where you live.The work sucks and it doesn't transition into to civilian world.

I wasn't interested in it then, but yeah, joining the military right out of HS would have probably been a much better option than squandering 5 years of my life and thousands of dollars on college.

Lol, fukk no. Nothing wrong with getting your degree and joining later. I'm not sure if I remember it right, but I think the military can help you pay off your student loans too. I've been out for a minute though, so it might have changed.

But if you join, don't go enlisted. It's a waste of your degree to be honest. Just go officer and enjoy that easy paycheck.

Dad been in the military for 25 years. He provided me, my big brother, and my mom a good life growing up. We wasn't rich or anything growing up but when we got to late highschool/early college my dad started making a good amount of money. He made a career out of it tho, not none of that join for 7 years to get your debt paid and quit.

I say go for it.
