Deion Sanders takes scathing shot at the Pro Football Hall of Fame: It's not the 'Hall of Fame' anymore

Deion Sanders has been in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for more than a decade now, but apparently, he doesn't think being in the Hall of Fame isn't quite the honor it used to be.

During a lengthy rant about the Hall of Fame, Sanders insinuated that it's now too easy for players to get in and that the Hall needs to think about separating the best Hall of Famers from other Hall of Famers by giving out a different color jacket (Each Hall of Famer gets a gold jacket the night before they're inducted).

"The Hall of Fame ain't the Hall of Fame no more," Sanders said. "I love it, I respect it, I admire it. I think all the guys who are inducted are definitely deserving, but it needs to be a different color jacket. My jacket's gotta be a different color."

If it were up to Sanders, he would totally revamp the process for getting into the Hall of Fame. The former 49ers and Cowboys star said he would create a top tier of Hall of Famers that would only feature 22 players (11 starters on offense and 11 on defense).

"There needs to be a starting 11, there needs to be an upper room," Sanders said. "My [bust] don't belong with some of these other [busts] that's in the Hall of Fame. I'm sorry, I'm just being honest. I'm just saying what you all are thinking and a lot of you all Hall of Famers are thinking the same thing. This thing is becoming a free-for-all now, man."

Sanders also believes that the Hall of Fame should only be letting in players who "changed the game."

"That's what the Hall of Fame is, a game-changer," Sanders said. "Not 'I played good, I had a good little run. I gave you three or four good years.'"

Sanders is arguably the best corner in NFL history. Not only was he named a first-team All-Pro a total of six times, but he also played on two Super Bowl-winning teams.

Sanders ended his rant by asking a simple question.

"Who votes? Who votes on this stuff?"

To answer Sanders' question, the Hall of Fame selection process is handled by a 49-person committee that is allowed to select between four and eight new inductees per year. Apparently, that number is too high for Sanders, who only wants to see the best of the best enshrined in Canton.

With the Hall of Fame getting called out by one of the best defensive players in NFL history, it will be interesting to see if it responds to Sanders' complaints.

You can see Sanders make his complaints below.

I love Prime

I agree 1000%

They puttin everyone in and people like Sterling Sharpe, Torry ****, Darren Woodson, Fred Taylor, etc have to wait

Not sure all thse dudes would qualify in his book as game changers.

I think Deion is right that it should be more exclusive, but not reserved only for game changers. That's too harsh, because some players are great even if they didn't change the sport with their greatness.

Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger are two dudes who didn't redefine their position but deserve to be there.

If the NBA only had players who changed the sport with their play in the hall of fame, I think the only players who would qualify over the last 30 years would be Shaq, Curry, LeBron and Dirk.

The HOF hasn’t changed it’s standards. You are only old enough to realize who actually makes it. People were having these conversations about players who made it before you were born.

And there are unofficial tiers. A first ballot HOFer is seen differently than a player who made it on their ninth attempt.

I edited it but Sterling Sharpe was dominating everyone before he hurt his neck. Everyone knew watching Sterling that he was a HOF player. Darren Woodson was a great player on a Dynastic legendary team that won 3 SBs he should be in

Torry **** has 6 1,300 yard receiving seasons in a row and played on a legendary team that transcended the NFL and won a SB

It’s a joke that he’s not in yet but Cris Carter and is 10 yards per catch possession receiving ass is in :hhh:

**** was better then Cris Carter who also has no rings

The HOF is a money making venture for the NFL, so of course they’re going to keep it going and put guys that don’t necessarily deserve to be there in it. The sooner people realize that, the better.
Explain how the NFL, who makes BILLIONS and BILLIONS from TV and streaming deals makes money from the HOF?

What I mean is the money they make from the HOF is insignificant and is chump change

There's a physical NFL Hall of Fame in Canton Ohio they benefit from the more people they add to the list. Not to mention all the week long festivities from sponsors and the HOF game itself that the NFL makes money from. Even the players themselves are indirectly benefitting from it as they use their HOF title as leverage for endorsement deals and such.
