All in all I think it's a discussion worth having.
I agree. I'm as staunchly pro 2A as you can be, but I'm not going to stand with my fingers in my ears and try to pretend there's not a problem. I think the biggest sticking point for me is that whenever any new legislation is proposed it either doesn't solve anything at all and is just a feel good measure, or goes way too far, like the bill my state passed in '13.

im a gun owner and i dont have any problem with background checks/ bans for certain felonies * esp domestic violence / initial waiting period
/trigger locks/ gun safes required in homes with children

what i would like the Dems to do is change the framing of the argument
-support hunters and sport shooters
-work to publicize all of the NRA safety rules and reccomendations
-emphasis gun training and safety

I came in to write this exact same thing.

Absolutely nothing wrong with safe, responsible gun ownership. However, there is definitely a need for more gun control measures to be put in place.

I actually wish they came out against hunting and sport shooters. Hunters disgust me

What're your thoughs?

for all intents and purposes this is the beginning of the end for "gun control" as we know it - and it's definitely a disturbing development. i'm all for gun rights/ownership but it needs to be within the confines of a reasonable regulatory framework.

they need to pass laws regulating 3D manufacturing of weapons - perhaps make it so that if you want to do so, you need to go through whatever legal processes would be required if you wanted to start any other gun manufacturing business. anyone who makes guns outside of this regulatory framework should be charged with crimes similar to arms trafficking.

other ideas:

a person can manufacture such a weapon only if they're already legally permitted to own weapons

prohibit the sale of 3D printed guns

work with the printer manufacturers to develop internal mechanisms that allow it to recognize if/when someone is attempting to print a gun

when it comes to guns my view is always that i err on the side of more "freedom" but also greater responsibility - there needs to be a huge deterrent value in the laws. the first idiot that prints a bunch of ARs for sale needs to be put away for 10 years per weapon.

we're just kinda limited by the constitution at this point. This is going nowhere other than Internet forums.

We're not limited by the constitution, we're limited by stupid ass "Anybody can have any gun they want" interpretations of it.
