This would be a good proposal for those who are in extreme need as of now...I don't really see the argument that this would make ppl not want to work again knowing that the money will only last as far their bills (rent, food, utilities, whatever) take it...

Everybody will have to return to work eventually after the money stops...

So let’s see. People clearing 4K a month in unemployment. A lot of people were making far less than that before unemployment. On top of that. Making 2k a month with this setup. Let’s say it’s a 2 person household and both are out. So that’s 12k a month household income. Let’s say they have 2 kids. That’s 13k a month household income. And u don’t have to step foot out ur door. That’s 156k a year. The average household ain’t clearing that while working. Lol

The previous unemployment rates before this pandemic suggests otherwise. even before the pandemic unemployment rates were high. There are actually companies that are offering furloughs and such to promote unemployment to their employees as a form of later "retention".

This should never have been the intended purpose, but I wound up being.

This is just marketing for votes
WHAT republican is voting for this? :mjlol:
the real question is which Dem finna get a chance to vote for this because they have no leverage to force such demands. Their chance to make substantial social changes was prior to government shutdown and recently, before voting for the third stimulas...aka wealth transfer initiative #832202339485 and counting

Exactly. The fact that nikkas can leave work for a month or more. Make more than their bosses. And STILL have a job waiting for them afterwards(which is fine). It doesn’t give people incentive to keep working for way less money. What’s to stop them from saying fukk it? Imma take this lil vacation and make this bread? It wouldn’t be like this if the essential workers were given that money as well.

Right now the essential worker hasn't received a damn thing. The govt has promoted not working. No way anyone can view this as a positive.

Anyone callings this "free money" is an idiot who needs to be tossed out of a helicopter with no parachute

Pretty sure a parachute wouldn’t help much if someone dropped out of a helicopter

We’re doing it in Canada. 2000$ a month for every citizen who reported earnings of at least 5000.00$ on their tax return. Took about 90 seconds to call in and register. Got the first deposit 72 hours later.

Government is co-signing loans for small businesses of 40000$ at 3% interest of which 10000$ doesn’t have to be paid back. My municipality is offering another 50000$ loan for businesses with a 6 month delay before any payments to return it begin. Employee wages are refundable by the government at 75% so places that are allowed to open actually can when time comes. Commercial landlords and tenants have a two month hold on mortgages and rents (for now, may be more).

Credit card payments can be deferred or paid at half interest. Home mortgages can be deferred. Student loan payments were suspended. Income tax filing was pushed back til June. Emergency loans were available for any citizen who was abroad to get home.

And we have universal healthcare for every citizen.

I live a 40 minute drive from the U.S border.
Bruh theses Rethugicans would let their family starve before handing over 2Gs a month. Look at all the fuss they made over 1200. Now if you were a corporation or rich they'll open the safe and let you feast

How is that pandering? It's in line with what multiple major industrial countries are doing, from Canada to European nations. I wouldn't cosign this to last a year but 3-5 months? Do it. While still working to re-open businesses.

We can't re-open the economy without significant testing. We need to know who is sick, who is asymptomatic, who is healthy, etc. Becauze people will NOT spend major money in businesses if they think they're gonna get sick. The problem is that this administration has failed with testing. So opening up is gonna be hard.

What's the point of opening your business for a week, barely getting any customers, and then being forced to shut down again because of a second wave of new virus cases slamming the hospitals?
Exactly. If Trump's ass would've got testing to the states we'd be alright. States still don't have enough tests which is Trump's responsibility.
