In a stunning security breach, two hackers have publicly embarrassed Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after gaining access to its website and leaving behind a trail of mocking messages. The hackers told 404 Media that exploiting the site’s vulnerabilities was a simple task, adding that anyone with basic coding skills could have done the same.
According to the hackers, the DOGE site’s security flaws stemmed from its use of a database known as Cloudflare Pages—an unsecured platform that anyone with access could edit. This oversight allowed the intruders to deface the website with messages like, “this is a joke of a .gov site” and, “THESE ‘EXPERTS’ LEFT THEIR DATABASE OPEN -roro.”
The breach comes after Musk’s ambitious promise to bring transparency to government operations by creating the DOGE department, which he claims would streamline the process of shutting down inefficient agencies. But according to 404 Media, the website was rushed into development following Musk’s announcement, leading to the glaring security failure.
Tech outlets, including The Verge, are raising alarms about the broader implications of the hack, which casts a shadow on the government’s ability to manage its digital infrastructure. Just days before the DOGE breach, the government’s newly launched waste.gov site faced its own security crisis, requiring a hasty lockdown after it was discovered using an unfinished WordPress template.
The hack has left many questioning the competence of the so-called experts behind Musk’s government project, with critics suggesting that this breach is just the latest sign of systemic issues plaguing the effort to modernize the government’s digital presence.
Because tech billionaires are literally just moderately intelligent conmen who were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and unscrupulous enough to betray everyone around them to horde all the money/power/success. None of them earned it. It was 1000% random chance and a$$holery. But that much success bakes a man's brain. It makes them think they must just be that brilliant. Then they leverage their extreme wealth to cheat the system some more and keep winning. And that works because capitalists created the system to work like that. In the end, billionaires literally think they're superhuman. That's part 1.
Part 2 is that narcissists project themselves onto everyone. Everyone they meet, they assume is as big a b*stard and as secretly broken inside as they are. They think they've all got the same motivations. So in their minds its just impossible for anyone to know or comprehend something that they can't. This is why Trump and Musk both think these big complex problems are simple.
Trump and Musk 100% truly believed that the government was rife with waste and fraud because their own businesses are. So they just assume that that must be the reason why the government has budget shortfalls. But when they get into to power and actually look at the data what they find is that there's very little real waste. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Of course, there's very little waste! The Republicans have been beating that drum for decades! If there ever was waste it would have been addressed so they could cut more taxes!" And yes. That's obvious. Elon honestly thought he'd plug into the system, scan it with AI, and bust open the piggy bank to find trillions in fraud. But what's actually happened is he's finding out that the government is frankly almost as efficient as humanly possible. But he can't say that. So he's "finding" fraud and waste that doesn't exist like an abusive spouse "balancing" the checkbook so they can find more gambling money.
