bro I've lived in Detroit before near Sinai Grace Hospital. The overall mentality is one of apathy and lethargy. There is absolutely no accountability to those who continually exploit and hold the community hostage. Preacher pimps can set up shop on every corner and stand right next to broken and vacant housing. Criminals aka Dope Boys are highly celebrated and regarded as heros. And don't let me get started on the Arabs. The Arabs are running circles around you negroes like its nobody's business. Liquor store, gas stations, coney islands, convenience stores, auto shops...etc. I really do not see how a people who make up more than 80% of the population are economically dominated by such a small group of people and the same time be absolutely content with it! And to top it off your politicians (the one's they've repeatedly voted for) are completely corrupt. Detroiters are responsible for their own lot. They've been given the cards they have dealt and now they must reap the consequences.
The city is changing, especially downtown and soon the blacks will be pushed further into the outskirts as a permanent underclass. And they have no one to blame but themselves. Detroit could've been a beacon for black unity and prosperity. But now it is widely known for its poverty and despair. Had blacks supported their own businesses, voted in politicians with integrity, and invested in their own communities instead of going across 8 mile to spend their money, the city wouldn't be in such bad shape.

I honestly don't see how any black man in Detroit can hold their heads up with dignity. They've failed the very same community they were suppose to protect.
:damn:...
You're mostly right.. but its not all lost

Detriot, Atlanta, DC and Oakland couldve been the big four for majority black populations.

They chipped away at Detriot (DC also) to change that though....gentrification is next. Already happening in DC

Slowly starting to happen in Atlanta too. nikkas need to start buying up properties/politicians and keeping this shyt as black as possible.

I gotta condo right in the middle of downtown atlanta, about 2 or 3 blocks from the dome. Right now it's about 99% black but you're starting to see random white people walking around like shyt sweet.

What businesses are those. Because for the most part in this country black owned businesses are barber shops and restaurants and boutiques. It's not like there was black owned movie theaters and malls that we didn't go to so we could go across 8 mile. There's been hundreds of politicians voted in but people like you only wanna talk about the few that got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. NEWSFLASH that's 90% of politicians. Don't talk like other people have these upstanding politicians with integrity and so forth.

If you're from Detroit and Actually lived in Detroit it's not hard to see what happened to the city. The big 3 was the backbone of detroits employment and as the car companies started to move more jobs out of the state money begin to leave. Property taxes was the backbone of detroit and Dan Gilbert and countrywide loans killed that with subprime loans. Detroit would have never went bankrupt if they didn't starting giving people with 500 credit scores 100k predatory loans. So you wanna talk about that abononed house that pimp preacher standing next to, start that convo with the banks that sunk Detroit.
Everybody is not celebrating drug dealers bruh. What you want people to be out here making citizens arrest or some shyt. People will always sell drugs that's just part of life.

Yeah the Arabs have a lot of shyt in Detroit, but go to most black cities and you'll find a gang of foreigners owning shyt like that. The powers that be would rather give them a break before they give it to us. I owned a corner store and the state laughed me outta there when I tried to get a liquor license, but for some reason habib didn't have that same problem.

Yeah detroit got problems but I don't rock with people like you with your nose in the air talking shyt from whereever you live cause it ain't detroit and you ain't from Detroit. Talkin bout how can any black man hold his head high. fukk outta here:camby:

While the city has a LOT of problems, and that includes the police, I think this rash of police killings getting glossed over isn't too much of an issue here.

Coleman Young put an end to the bad old days of STRESS/Big Four.

When police kill people here it actually matters. Malice Green's killers were tried and jailed.

Aiyana Jones killer is going on his third trial (speaking of I'm not even sure of his guilt/innocence; the family WAS shady and there is reasonable doubt in that case).

Renisha McBride's killer is doing something like 15 years.

It's not perfect but the point is, innocent or guilty they get their day in court. That only goes for Detroit/Wayne county. Over in Oakland they let security guards go for choking people on their stomach.

I think the biggest problems facing Detroit/been facing it are things other places take for granted.

Schools and public mass transit. Funny enough those are things under direct attack by the state for half a century.

I think Duggan has been doing pretty good so far. He'd have to though because Dave Bing :snoop::pacspit:. Unless you lived here during 2009-2013(maybe the city at it's knees) it's hard to describe just how wretched a leader he was.

Probably the best idea Duggan has put out has been the home auction website. I live around the 6 mile/Wyoming. And at least 4 abandoned homes in the area have been purchased and you can see work being done on them. I start seeing some gentrification in my pops hoods around 6/Van Dyke :lupe::whoo::ohhh:.

I think a lot of city residents, gentrification isn't such a bad thing, because the neighborhoods fell so low.

I feel that Black America doesn't do shyt about any of this unless Detroit does better. :yeshrug:

Detroit is black America. Have the worst hoods, but also invented the modern black middle class. Also we export black professionals all over the nation, helping out other cities n shyt.
Put black music and pop culture on the world wide map. Detroit is the reason the world started to even think of black people as 'cool'. NOI started here and couldn't have started anywhere else realistically (from that we get all the spin off groups and black pride in hip hop, etc)
Not that this is a good thing.. but being in style, having that talk game and all that shyt.. popularized by Detroit.
Most of what it means to be black in America comes from da D and most people don't even know it... so.........

We the non violent people like MLK would come speak in the Detroit.. they felt free to not say soft shyt.. you come here to say your real shyt.

When Malcom X house was firebombed that night in NYC ---- He came all the way to Where else - that same night - to drop some real shyt. There is really no where else you can go if some shyt like that happens to you.. who da fukk else can relate in America?

Our pres right now is arguing with some fat CAC governor in NJ on whether to bring Assata Shakur back to the US to die in a prison... etc. Detroit has a hand off assata day.

What do you think about all this police violence shyt?

What do you think about hood issues?

What do you feel would happen if some shyt went down here , like one of these cases in the media.? ..... we had the ayiana jones thing but that shyt is still being sorted out........ I'm talking like a nikka getting shot unarmed and the grand jury says get over it black people type of thing.

I only ask because i see what these other posters say...

but they aren't from Detroit.

We have the most black people
We have the realest nikkas in the world.......... no competition.
in our city (if u actually live in the city ) has the realist life and situations.
plus we have the Most low key rich nikkas... (outside of dc) and we have the most ability to make change.

@ (I don't know if all of these people are from detroit:yeshrug: but ive seen post that make me think that. and i know i'm leaving out like 20 posters, so somebody should @ them cuz I tried putting the names in but they didn't come up. )

@valet @Regular_P @BrehMan @Coney Island @Detroit Wave @DetroitEWarren @detroitred @detroitwalt @Klarifeye The Great @Ed MOTHERfukkING G @Ed MOTHEREFFING G @luckyse7enz @WOAHMYGOODNESS @fukkapaid email @wire28 @Eastside Get The Money @eastside313 @Captain_Crunch @MR. And we have a history anyway... I don't believe there are more powerful riots than detroit 1943 and Detroit 1967. During the civil war cacs in NYC had a larger riot and of course LA riots 1992 were larger, but both Detroit riots are the most powerful in us history. Even though I feel riots should be more organized... and shouldn't attack black people or black businesses, at all.

BTW the kkk and other groups make metro detroit their 'strong holds' off and on since the early 1900's for a reason.

imo.

1st off, neg pending for not tagging me. :comeon:

Secondly, the Bay Area deserves more credit than Detroit does :camby:

We started most of that shyt

i could make a list longer for Detroit........ and my list would be more definitive of BLACK culture. and BLACK Music and BLACK ways.
And I can't believe you aren't from Chicago or Detroit, and even put the word Pimp in there. :stopitslime:

I'll give yall BBP, and half of pop locking.... because nobody would give a fukk about any hip hop type dance w o NYC.
the bay area didn't give rioting tho.... Detroit had a larger riot before the watts riots.

.... but that's not what this thread is about though.

with all due respect, no one cares about Detroit
it's possible that chinese businessmen and billionaires in america are currently investing in detroit because they don't care.... i guess?
i think most people care about most major cities.

detroit is no longer a major city. those same chinese businessman and billionaires have more important and profitable investments in nyc, miami, la, sf, etc.
