It was not a catch according to the rule its that simple. Falling to the ground isnt a football move. And the ball hit the ground that much isnt debatable. So you can think its a dumb rule (I do too) but you can't question the refs interpretation of it which was correct :yeshrug:

What about the part where he took two steps? Is that a football move?

Or is taking two steps "falling"?

My problem isn't with the rule... It's how long in a play should it apply. I don't think it should apply after a player has taken three steps and in this case, also had his right elbow down before the ball moved.
He had clear control during all three of those actions

Had he not tried to squeeze a extra yard out of the play by extending towards the goal line and just secured the ball with two hands on the way down it would have been a catch. But that's the risk you take when you trying to make THE play.

its true they do need to fix that rule.
but this isn't o different than any catch where the receiver has to feet in bounds but drops the ball when he lands on the ground.

the elbow hitting is irrelevant becase they looked at the catch and determined that he DID NOTmake a football move while maintaining possession before he went to the ground.
Ok. I'm over it but it's a good discussion. But is it similar to this play.

go to 2:40.

BTW, they did reverse that call in the Giant game and put him down at the 1. My thing is was there contact by Shields? If so, the lunge is irrelevant, right. Because he's down at the one which is where the official ruled him there from the beginning.

NFL V.P. of officiating Mike Pereira (via NFL spokesman Greg Aiello): “By rule, when a receiver with possession of the ball is in the act of going to the ground and performs a second act by reaching out to break the plane, that completes the process of the catch and the ball is dead when it breaks the plane.”

from 2010. defend this

Not sure why this is getting overlooked...maybe cuz you didn't provide a link, so take this assist:

not a catch

Man fukk that. Catch all day. Dude extended to break the plane, but held back a little last minute so the ball wouldn't pop out.

This shyt ruined the game even though I wanted Dallas to lose

Similiar play but the ball crossed the plane so its ruled a td. Dez didn't cross the plane against the packers. He got greedy and they lost the game.

Got greedy??? :what:

With all that momentum he's just suppose to fall to ground being a few yards from the end zone....

Foh!!

he didn't take two steps while maintaining full possesion though.

you dudes need to get off that. I posted a PICTURE gif off the play.

when he finally got two hands on it his one foot was already on the ground and he was moving it to his other hand while going down on his second step then lunging on his third.

him LUNGING doesn't mean he wasnt going to the ground already though.

and you dudes mentioning his elbow or knee it DOESN"T matter

only time an elbow or knee down is in reference to a player that was already in possession of the ball then going down(like a rb)
the elbow down before the ball comes out means nothing, he STILL has to maintain possession throughout.

did you guys just start watching football yesterday?
