Kicking people out at 70 is pretty extreme, there are some very physically/mentally capable 70 year olds. My great grandma is 81 and she still drives (with no problems), walks without a cane, takes care of herself, etc. It depends on the person.

But I wouldn't be opposed to people above a certain age having to take test every year or two to make sure they're not senile and are physically capable of the job. People who know they wouldn't pass would have an incentive to retire to avoid embarrassment.
Yeah it's definitely a slippery slope. For example Feinstein did a lot of her net positive, humane work at 70-85.

That said, many people that age are obviously not capable.

So I agree, I actually think standardized, non-bias tests would be the best. Take a page out of whiteboard interviews and protect against cheating. If they can pass the exams, they can run and would have to pass them periodically.

Power.

They don't want to give it up. Once you do, your personal assistants go away, your influence goes down, you don't get to enjoy some of the spoils and riches of power.

And since she is dying as a sitting Senator and not a former Senator, they will likely have a big funeral for her in DC that will be covered live by the major media channels, and all the Presidents except Trump (cause he is petty) and Carter (cause of age) will attend.
And at the end of the day, you're still dead and life goes on

Then they can do other jobs.
All tests have some implicit bias in them somewhere.

We already have age floors, we absolutely need age ceilings. A line has to be drawn somewhere ... 70, 75, 80 ... 90 year old senators should not be a thing.

How is this even remotely close to RBG? She has a blue district. Another Democrat was gonna replace her no matter when she died.
Decrepidly old white woman who refused to give up her spot, regardless of obvious health issues, under great protest for her to resign until she died because she knew someone black was going to replace her?

Mentioned this in an earlier thread about age and Federal Office, the voters knew her age and condition and she won the last election anyway.
Ehhh that was back in 2018 before her dementia condition was truly known and to the point it got.

Besides if you know who her opponent was, then you would know that it wouldn't have been a good idea if he won based on what's come out about him.

Two majorly flaw candidates in hindsight.

Aren't democrats fukked now :francis: ? The opps can now freely stall out any judges :snoop:

Another RBG situation.
Yep. Dems never learn to play for keeps. Should have forced her off her special committee a decade ago. They play nice, the other side plays politics
