This has nothing to do with anything. You're acting like young people with plenty of free time ceased to exist when we grew up.

What happened was video games became mainstream. Mainstream = the industry has no patience for niche markets like RPGs, because by this point they know what the vast majority of people are interested in. Which is why we have "Call of Duty 15" and not "Chrono Trigger III".

Fred.

What I was saying was that growing up free time was ALL i had ... now with 3 kids, a wife, a job and other crap ... I dont have that much time.. Sh!t even kids today dont have that much free time ... damn school system got 1st graders writing short stories for HW and what not
Hell, I just finished GOW1 last night.. took me 4 weeks to log a total of 10 hours of total playtime. And thats the first game I finished in over 10 years ...

Seems like they had something going with Ivalice universe with this and FFT. Both are one of the best storylines in any RPG but then the FFT sequels :scusthov: and i didn't even bother with FFXII. I pretty much was done with Square's BS

I actually thought the 1st GBA FFT had a very good story the second one was weak, imo.

Actually I think FFXII is unfairly hated on. The characters were kind of bland but the overall story was excellent.

I still doubt that has anything to do with it. The sole reason games are shorter now is because of the money it takes to make them. I doubt people having free time even comes into the equation.

20 years ago there would be no Wii because there wasn't a casual market. There wouldn't be anyone copping a SNES for 1 game, because there wasn't one game big enough to justify that. There is a fukk ton of people that copped 360s just to play "Call of Duty" or "Halo" or sports titles. You go over their house, and that's their whole gaming library. These people don't consider themselves gamers, but they're making titles sell 12 million copies. That's who the industry is trying to cater to. Casuals will always outweigh the hardcore, when it comes to anything. For every one of us that wishes there was another "Star Ocean" or "Lunar" I guarantee there is 100 that are fiending for the next "Call of Duty".

breh... you have no idea what I wouldn't give to see a next gen CronoTrigger sequel with the same graphics and 500 hours of gameplay. :heh:

Or my dream of Final Fantasy Tactics as an MMO with constantly upgraded content and guilds.

Could you imagine it? :ahh: You wouldn't stand around casting spells over and over like standard guild raid/wars. Your own personal squad would be ranked based on personal performance while your guild would be ranked based on average squad rankings.

When guilds clashed once/twice a week, you'd be automatically matched against similar ranked squads. You'd put five to 8 people from your squad out on the field based on strength/weaknesses you see in the squad you're facing..... And two or three weaker squads would be able to team up against a squad of a much higher rank... albeit with a character limit handicap. Last guild standing wins. 3 hour time limit.

it would be GLORIOUS. :blessed:

The first game I ever beat, I'll always love this game

Man fukk this game. I loaned my next door neighbor
SectionZNES.png
which was :whoo: and that dumb ass dude dropped it in water or some shyt. So his moms bought me Dragon Warrior as a replacement, I was salty as shyt. Maybe because I was young I didn't like it I played it but something about RPG's just screamed Nerd.

THEN THE GOAT DROPPED
final-fantasy-iii-snes-cover-back-33596.jpg
Didn't know it a the time though. Thought moms had bought some huff ass shyt for the young God. And if you played the game. you know it doesn't let you skip the intro So I'm thinking my controller broke and shyt. Turned the game off, was bout to take that shyt out. Turned it back on. Music was banging so I let it play out, found the controls did work and the rest was history.

shyt had a nikka like :scusthov::patrice::ehh::ohhh::gladbron::ooh::whew::banderas:

After that it was a wrap I been an RPG fan since ESPECIALLY JRPG's.(which have not been very good lately) But I'm holding out hope for something dope on the new hardware.

yeah, the whole Ivalice universe is Yasumi Matsuno's creation and the only re-occurring one in Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy Tactics' titles, Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy XII all took place in the same Ivalice.

honestly i thought FFXII was a return to form for Square -- it still left a lot to desire in the way of a good story. the game suffered a rushed development and a lot of creative differences, in-fighting, et cetera.

but then Square started releasing absolute garbage again and lost half of their bigwigs. :stopitslime:

we off Square. Atlus took the reigns these last two generations with stellar titles like Disgaea, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Odin Sphere, Persona, Demon's Souls, and so on.

The problem is that these type of games wouldn't do numbers needed to justify the cost.

Even Atlus and NIS and Gust are carrying the torch but all of their biggest sellers are non RPGs, Persona aside, and even then they may hit 1 million copies. The RPGs of our youth will forever be niche games and it's sad.

I didn't fukk with too many. Off the top of my head, I played FF7-12, FF Tactics and Brave Fencer GOAT Musashi :ohlawd:

In retrospect though, 7, 8 and tactics are the only FFs worth playing the rest are trash. 9 wasn't bad but... it just bugged me that they went back to 7's art style after releasing 8's graphics that's what I was expecting. The gameplay if I remember correctly wasn't too bad though. I played 10 recently and brehs, it was not good - take off the rose tinted glasses. 12 wasn't bad but towards the end its like they said "fukk it we done :ahh:." They could of kept going with the story and expanding it :sadcam:, the end was so rushed but I read the guy that was writing the story was dropped halfway through or something.

Edit: popped in Musashi after digging for a while.. oh mah gad.. the graphics so shytty yet it still its so based :blessed:

9 was like an homage to the OG Final Fantasy and i was cool with it. The return of 4 party members, Medieval settings. I thought it was solid. Though Zidane and Kuja felt like an off brand Cloud/Sephiroth rivalry
