You giving Eminem and white Amerca too much credit. White America and Black America knee Dre BEFORE Eminem was even on the radar like that. Eminem popped off because Dre was producing him.

The Firm flop wasn't 100% Dre's fault and it was a flop for a reason. There was too many labels and machines behind that project for it not to be a mega success, but it wasn't. "Phone Tap" produced by Dr. Dre and Glove was well received though. Aftermath Presents was a compilation that was conplete departure from what Dre was known for.
Let's make a chart if Dre's success vs death rows success after he left pre- Eminem. I'm not gonna argue my opinion cuz it means nothing. Let's start dealing with facts.

Death Row's sucvess after Dre left is a Snoop albun that benefited from the legacy of the Dre produced Doggystyle and posthumous Pac records.

After Dre left those pac records still kept them afloat as Dre himself couldn't benefit from his past records. Why are y'all acting like you don't remember late 96-98?

Super inaccurate, Still D-R-E and and Next Episode had way more of an impact than Forgot About Dre.. Still D-R-E was the biggest selling single of the album and Next Episode charted highest. Dre blew back up because he returned to a sound that was more familiar to a core Dre audience and because he was reunited with Snoop. The opposite is true though, Eminem would not have been as big as he became without the Dre wave, without Dre Em is just white backpack rapper on Rawkus compilations.

So why didn't Dre get Last Emp to pop? Last Emp was before Em. Both underground buzzing rappers at the time. Without Em, Dre fades away....especially since Suge already stepped on Chronic 2000. That would've never come out without the Em fiasco

Your'e way off, Dre doesn't fade away without Eminem, during that time he had already linked back up with Snoop on Just Dippin and bytch Please was huge, did Eminem add to the popularity? Yeah for sure, but by no means is he the reason Dre blew back up. Without Eminem you still have Dre linked back up with Snoop, Kurupt, Nate Dogg and not to mention NWA..so, the Up In Smoke tour could have happened without Eminem. Eminem benefits more from being aligned with Dre as opposed to vice versa.

Pac records kept them afloat because The Death Row sound was non-existent at that point.

Dre couldn't benefit from his past because he spent '96-'98 fighting to escape it rather than building on it.

Dre's 2001 outsold Em's album. Em got bigger AFTER 2001. How is Dre fading, but outsells the artist you saying was the catalyst for that album droppin. First single ain't even feature Em.

Eminem didn't save Dre. The records that Dre did for SSLP weren't even indicative of the direction Dre was heading. Dre's real come back was this record:

"My Name Is" got Dre's name back out there, but from him being "back", the Snoop record did more than the Em record did.

Eminem absolutely saved Dre. It's not even debatable. Interscope and other execs wanted to drop Dre Iovine stuck it out and helped him find Eminem.

Eminem breathed new life into him. From there Dre was relevant again and went from being ice cold to hot and people wanting to work with him again. Dre is only as good as the people around him.

Without Eminem that song you posted or chronic 2001 does not happen.

Ultimately Death Row died with Pac. Yes losing Dre was a major blow but Pac dying sucked all the momentum out. Makaveli sold well and had great production (terrible mixing tho...) without Dre, Let's say Pac lived to do another more mainstream album. Does anyone think it wouldn't be huge?

Death Row still had Daz and Pac being there would have attracted more solid producers to the camp. Yea losing Dre would have hurt but I don't see a fall off when you got the biggest rapper and he understands sonically pleasing music (good ear for beats, concepts, song structure etc). The fall off would happen eventually but not in 1997 or 1998, for instance.

No, Pac dying killed everything though

Pac took Death Row to another level, more worldwide and next stage was to unite the coasts and bring Death Row to the East. Suge had the ultimate rapper in Pac, a true superstar, he could do it all, rap, act, speak, had the looks, the image.

Dre became a recluse taking credit for other producers work

Unite the coasts?:gucci:

It was him beefing with the east more or less, how you gonna unite the coasts when everybody is pretty much cool with each other except you?

Agree with the rest though, Pac was a charismatic entertainer thats for sure.

Westcoast
First problem...Tupac wasn't a westcoast rapper? The reason why westcoast rap was going away because Tupac died and the westcoast didn't put out untouchable material anymore. So more horrible shyt came out....the east stuff wasn't good. Nas put out a good follow up and Jay z's first album was pure struggle status. I liked it but no one gave a fukk about him until the second album and Biggie was dead. Master P couldn't be who he was if Tupac was alive. Jay Z couldn't be who he is if Biggie was alive. Cash Money got carried by Juvenile's effort and BG's Bling Bling follow up. All of that down south shyt that came out in 98 and 99? Str8 garbage. None of them lasted. Lil Troy, Mia X, Mystikal, Mr Serv On, Big Tymers...they all fell off. Bad. Silk the Shocker? LMAO.

Mase got red hot and retired. He was everywhere and didn't even really promote Double Up. That's when Jay Z and DMX got popping. That's what Tupac's death did. It allowed for lesser talent to get hot and be accepted.

Down South ended up emulating and the Tupac THUG LIFE style and they fell off. They were see through. DMX was seen as a Tupac ripoff at first but he had his own odd little barking style and voice tone..so he was able to survive that perception.
