I dont normally make threads but Ive been angry about this for the past couple days so I gotta vent about it.

So I had an interview for a position for the city last week.
I get there about 20-30min early. The supervisor(the interviewer) ended up being 20-30min late.Other than that the interview went fine and she gave me a verbal offer and I said yes to the position.

The next day I email her in the afternoon around 3 to thank her for the interview.
She ends up telling me that unknowingly to her she was told that morning she has to delay all hiring.I asked in a follow up about at timeframe and she responded she doesnt know when it will end. I thanked her for her time and consideration.

After that a couple days pass and I email her
So I wont be able to give you more than the two weeks time that I talked about during the interview as far as hiring goes.

I understand that you didnt know about the hiring delay but after the 28th of May I cant make any guarantees about accepting the Microbiologist I position if it was offered to me considering there is no current timeframe for how long the delay will continue.

I was also under the impression that you gave me a verbal offer as well during the interview. If this was the case then I may reconsider if the delay goes beyond that two weeks.

She hadnt responded. Moms said I sounded agressive and honestly she could be right but idk I feel that im not in the wrong and did what I was supposed to do and even tried to be considerate...

In mind im thinking: How did you not know about a delay in your department???
The job was posted since feb and you find out about a hiring delay may 9th the day after my interview....:stopitslime:.
Not only that you were late too? If the roles were reversed as a job seeker theres no way I could be 30 min late and not know whats going on at an interview as a young black male.I understand hiring freezes but really?

TLDR: Showed up early for a interview, supervisor was late, she offered me the job, next day claimed theres a hiring delay and op has been angry since.

You were not too emotional. Being upfront is the best thing to do. You are as important as them in this situation. Furthermore you're more important in your life. Waiting for a chance when there are opportunities to be had is not smart.

I wouldn't waste time at this company because they sound supremely disorganized.

I had a company bring me in for 3 interviews in a week, the last interview being 4 hrs long

made me a verbal offer that Friday I accepted and said they will give me the final word the following Tuesday

Tuesday came, no email or phone call. Followed up on Wednesday with a email, nothing. Then Thursday with a Voicemail. nothing. After that I decided I can't work at a company that would renege on their word like that.

Never heard from them to this Day to this DAY

No you were very professional. I hire people, and when I train others to hire, I stress you are the representative for the company. If they are that disorganized during the interview process I guarantee the operations would be no better if and when you work there. Keep your head, and find something better. Those are red flags they have other problems going on. I speak from experience before finding my job. Same deal happened to me, and even worse hiring manager said you know more than me, you should be hired in no time, 2 weeks went by, and there was a hold on hiring. I found a job that paid damn near double an hour with less stress, and work. May be a blessing in disguise. Just cause they are trying hiring you don't mean they have they shyt together. They need your help for a reason.

Sound like some shyt where they got word there isn't enough budget to hire another employee.

But I believe you did the correct thing. How long can they expect you to place your life on hold when there are real implications at hand. You did your part, the company failed to do theirs.

The thread starter didn't do anything wrong. Showing up late, not giving a clear message, and not providing him with an update are signs of disrespect. The only thing I would do differently is tell them that I don't want to work for the company in the event that they made contact (I wouldn't reach out to them first and would just keep it moving).
