Would have preferred we opened our own joint and ran his out or at least gave him stiff competition. But that's too simple a view to apply to this film. Some here get it and some don't.People aren't gonna sit around and feel played and helpless forever. shyt boils over someway somehow. It remains his most powerful film in my eyes.

Now lis'en 'ere, Sal was a good man, came from a proud lineage of eyetalians, open up a bidness for your people...of course he had peoples who looked like him in his place of business.

That there uh boogie guy, he's a bit of ball bustin' prick, and got his fellow cugini whacked by the boys. That dare isn't uh er, how you shake down a bidness.

Nah he wasn't. Buggin Out was a bytch for that shyt..ended up getting a brother killed for no reason. Like Sal told him..open your own spot and you can put all the brothers on the wall you want :manny: Instead of trying to actually take control of his life and build something of his own :snoop: He started a race riot that didnt get what he wanted accomplished.

On a side not this is my favorite movie and I went to the street where it was filmed on vacation last month :blessed:

Not obligated, but I can't imagine how putting up a photo of a black hero would have been a big deal to Sal.

I would have done it if I were him.

No, but I actually can relate to this to some degree.

I lived in a black area where we had a new publix supermarket open up. For those familiar with the store, you know they put the faces of managers at the customer service area. There was something that bugged me in seeing all the baggers being black, not even all the cashiers, just baggers, but then see nothing but white faces in six different management positions and as cashiers. Stopped shopping there.

I went down there recently after being gone for 2 years, and it looks like they got half white and half black managers now. I think something happened or someone said something.

Even the Walmart on MLK in Atlanta got a big painting of him in the store and that's a big corporation... but at the end of the day it's Sals restaurant he makes the rules :yeshrug:

I few years ago I went on vacation in Southern France, Cannes tbe and went inside a souvenir shop. The place had pictures of famous movie stars decorated on the wall due to it being know for the film festival. As I was looking at the pictures I dawned on me that there were no pictures of black actors displayed. I expected a picture of Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Sam Jackson, all world famous and box office draws, the very least. That really left an impression on me and I felt offended as a black tourist so I can relate to how Bugging Out felt but on the same token Sal wasn't obligated to include black people on his wall. The solution would've been to put him out of business by opening a neighborhood pizzeria a point that Spike should've explored.

This is how I feel when I watch sports now. All/most of the players being black, but when you look in the skyboxes you see nothing but white billionaire owners. Mostly white head coaches and assistant head coaches. Mostly white announcers. Mostly white doctors and physicians. Mostly white cheerleaders. Idk, maybe its just me:francis:

The slave mentality is strong in this thread. A brotha who's customer's were 99% white would never have a hall of fame with 100% black folks cuz he would be conscious enough to know his customers would speak with there wallets and go somewhere else. Sal doesn't give a fukk cuz he knows where he stands on the totem pole and he knows we don't have the balls to question white supremacy. There were plenty of inspirational black folks he could of put up out of respect for his customers. But I'll let the c00ns tell us how its his restaurant and the customers opinions don't matter.

He was a damn racist, are yall forgetting this:mindblown:

When he started the business it was probaly a place mostly frequented by italians, then black folks moved into the neighborhood and he was forced to serve us.....people of other races move business into our neoghborhoods by design and still hate us,but will take our money.

So how u think somebody who never planned on us being his primary customers felt:scust:?this movie is still wack to me...a buncha nikkas gettin all mad because a radio got smashed, when Sal just called them ******s a few seconds earlier and aint shyt pop off:mjpls:...but noooooo you cant smash his boombox, fukk outta here Spike:camby:

It is not about whether he "had" to. In business you serve the people. It would have been a gesture of respect and community to highlight people that reflect the community he made is his living in.

So nikkas shouldve just been hapoy with a symbol or "gesture" from this racist....they asked and got they answer when he was so against it.

nikkas get they answer everyday with how we are treated, and still keep supporting these racist establishments:mjcry:
