It's an unfortunate situation and I don't think anyone is really making light of it. Instead I think most people are just seeing it for what it really is and, most importantly, putting themselves in the store owner's shoes.

Same could be said for any fight. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who has gotten hit first. Plus most aren't even doing that, people are literally saying they'd shoot that dude if they got hit. I'm 99.9999% sure that the people making those comments wouldn't be saying that if the dude was white. That's how i feel. Kill another black person and these people feel they'd more than likely get away with it so they are more gung ho to say " yea I'd shoot that nikka too". That's the truth as i see it.

Can you link to the relevant law? Are you referring to a federal or state law?

I'd imagine it would be aggravated assault, but you can use self-defense against that charge. Killing the person for punching you? I think you'd definitely go to jail on some shyt like that.
