did this warrant a 50 on my final exam?

TL;DR
- semester final project was due on my bday
- had fam I hadn't seen in years surprise me before class wanting to go to dinner.
- missed class but tried to turn it in before class via email.
- professor didn't accept it via email
- A+ work gets a 50/100 dropping my A to a B in the class.
- I'm mad because it's not like I didn't offer to turn it in with proof it was done and it's not like I missed my presentation.

So my accounting final was a project where we make a full 10K Annual Report for a company. I ended up with a B in the class because he gave me a 50 on the final.

It was to be turned in (in person only) the class before the last class and presented on the last class.

The day the project was due was also my birthday.

An hr before I had to turn in the project in person. My brother shows up at my apt door by complete surprise. He's a sarg. In the military stationed in Alaska, I hadn't seen him in 3 years.

He was heading to a training in Mississippi and his commander allowed him to fly into his hometown instead and drive the rest of the way the next day so he can see his fam.

So he pops in and wants to go to dinner before he lives early in the AM. This is a late class 8pm, so I hit my professor up. No response.

I offer to send in my project so it's accounted for and explained why I wouldn't make it to class. Hoping he'd allow it. He hits me back at like 11pm telling me I had to turn it in next class but he's not sure what he's gonna do with it and that I can't send it in.

This project took over 30hrs. I come in next class turn it in in person, present. He never updates my grade. Grades are turned in and now he emails me and says he gave me a 50. Even though it was A+ work.

I'm pissed off.

FIGHT.

Schedule a meeting with the dean. The longer you wait the less likely you are to receive a fair grade. This sh!t is not a joke.

Some professors are a$$holes. I had to learn that the hard way many times in undergrad. You'll be aight.

What year are you in? I always tell people that it's really easy to get a feel for a professor within the first few weeks of class. That's when you know where and with whom you can fukk around with. Some professors you can not show up at all and it doesn't matter as long as you hand in your work on time and take the exams. Other professors take it as an insult that you would waste their time and have them show up to the lecture but not show up to be taught.

It varies :yeshrug:

I never heard of a college professor not accepting a report via email, but if that's his policy you should've known well beforehand and at least just went and dropped it off then went with the fam. It's on you.

If I'm paying someone, they're on my time.

Professors aint sh!t. Most of your grades can be negotiated.

Some sh!t like this happened to me back in school. I threatened to sue. I got my grades changed and I was given special accommodations to take tests on my own time in my own room. No monitoring.

Do not let these b!tch ass professors play with your life.

In the south!
for the 70th time, once my fam arrived, I had to get him situated. Gave him a key, the code to my APT, ect. I don't live next to campus. I would have been later. So I would not have made the beginning of class since its a 45 minutes drive (normally 15) due to traffic.
I feel as though if youd just put for the effort to make it to class he would've took it without the 50% reduction. Was your brothers visit worth it? if so get over it and let it go.

You can't blame him. Most teachers make the rules that way for a reason- students trying all kinds of shyt in the past and you never know who is lying. He was probably burned in the past too, feels jaded about good cool students trying to pull one over. Students aren't the only ones getting walked on. You never know. He's got a job to do. Think about it from both sides

In this particular case his response was uncalled for no matter what happened to him in the past. He e-mailed him the day of. When the fukk does he start grading the papers, immediately after class? :rudy: I've had my last marketing teacher hold up my degree issuance because he was still grading papers like almost a month after the fukking course ended. I'm like nikka I'm applying for jobs I need my file closed. It's 2009 and still a recession so I need all the time I can get starting NOW :mindblown:

Exactly what you should have done. The biggest thing college does for you is get you ready for the real world. You are going to have plenty of times the rest of your life where you are going to have to make decisions between things you want to do, vs things you need to do. Then, YOU will have to deal with the consequences. This was no different. It's harsh, but at the end of the day, this professor teaches many students. To him, more than likely your just another number. You got a 50, when he could have easily given you a 0. Do you think if your brother, whom is in the military, had to be somewhere for the military, and you popped up he could just drop his responsibility, and he not be reprimanded? :usure:You got a B instead of an A, :yeshrug:. If it's that big of a deal to you, make sure you learn from it.

OK I get what you meant but college only prepares you for that one aspect of the real world which is time management and preparing for deadlines. Other than that there is a million of other things you need to learn that college alone cannot teach you:camby:

it's christmas time so let me trim the corniness..
to be honest, a letter grade off for the entire course seems fair by modern standards :ld:

sorry you had to learn the lesson so sharply

life circumstances will continue to pull you one way, and professional obligations (which includes completing your academic training) will always pull you the other
