I don't know if trap music is Hip Hop. I enjoy trap music, but it did dumb down the genre as a whole. It made the barrier to entry lower. It lowered the standards of skill.

IMO and no disrespect, but Detroit never really had it's own sound.

Its called neo soul bro.. Dilla never happened? It didnt spawn a genre? On the street side too. Royce never sounded like a d artist. Trap has always been around though.
Look at artists like travis scott and spaceghost they push the way it songs and it's structure. They're progressive trap producers. So is London who doesn't get enough credit because he incorporates many different sounds in his production. The format is the same as boom bap the content isn't much different the sonics are
