Did you ever think you would see the day when writing your own lyrics didn't matter?

My question is why did Drake become an "emcee" after he was "exposed" for having ghostwriters? The majority of yall hating him now, were hating him before saying he made pop music, not hip hop. But instead of sticking to hat argument, you use irrational hate and invalidate your own arguments.

You're asking us this as if we were the ones arguing he's an MC in the first place. His fans were the ones talking about he's a GOAT level MC. "Never the flow though", all kinds of shyt.

His "flow" is impeccable. The reference tracks just furthered that point. QM is a terrible rapper, his pen might be strong but his delivery is trash, which is why he's "behind the scenes".

This is false.

The same DJ Premier that wouldn't let Justin Beiber spit a ghost written verse on the BET cipher said that Drake brought lyricism back to Hip Hop.

That has nothing to do with anything. You asked why are people holding him to the standard of an MC....his camp said only frauds need help with their bars. By OVO's own logic he's a fraud.

Who am I to argue with 40? :manny:

Lebron stans and Drake stans go hand in hand
Lebron stans made bandwagoning acceptable and "the wave"
Drake stans made milly vanillys acceptable, wattba :francis:

Ehhh, I'm with you on Drake, but as far as Lebron, joining two homies and stars in your prime after years of washouts >>>>>>> having your team trade you for a bag of skittles when you're broke down and busted at 36.

"Don't worry if I write rhymes, I write checks"

Ghost writing has been around, a rapper being called "the best" and being credited for bringing lyricism back while being a one man cover band is unprecedented though.

nikkas used to turn their nose up at KRS for making a distinction between rappers and MC's/rap and Hip Hop.

I think people can see the science behind that now.

It didn't start with Drake though. Kanye was heralded as a lyricist even after it was revealed that Rhymefest wrote a verse on "Jesus Walks". Kanye's shared mics with Nas, KRS, Nas, and Rakim on the same song, did a full album with Jay Z, and people still knew he had writers and people still speak of Kanye as a lyricist.

Ye caught plenty of backlash on here and :hamster: though, he's just not the one in the news cycle at the moment and I don't see anybody rating him as a lyricist, definently not to the extent people were trying to rate Drake.

Him getting on as a producer also lends a little more credence to falling back on being more of a Dr Dre type who is curating and show casing talent.

Him catching backlash on here and :hamster: is irrelevant though especially when there's posters here who have compared him to 2Pac and even said he was better than Nas. You have MC's and magazines who hold Kanye as a great lyricist in Hip Hop. His fans will argue that Kanye is a great lyricist.

Him getting on as a producer has no bearing on it. Dr. Dre isn't out here making albums with great MC's and calling the group Watch The Throne. He's not doing interviews in which he's saying he's holding his lyrics side by side with the ones on Illmatic to see how they stack up. Kanye, as much, if not more than Drake want people to take him seriously as a rapper. If I'm not mistaken, people in his own camp have said that Ye fell back on being hands on with production to focus more on rapping.
