not getting in yall shyt, but the 2 things i bold are incorrect...

1) diddy did usher's first album...had him looking like a member of jodeci lol....jd didnt start working with usher till the 2nd album....

2) materialism has always been in hip-hop, since the beginning...people have always rhymed/bragged about owning the fliest shyt, living large, etc...exs: sugar hill gang talking about shyt they didnt even own; special ed 'i got it made', rappers and jewerly, etc....puff just continued with what was already there....

Al b sure, devante swing, and faith Evans did a lot of the production on that album and the album itself was considered a flop that almost got usher kicked off of LA face Records.

1) puffy was a co-executive producer of the album...also, puff was the one that saved the album/usher at that time cause la was gonna drop him cause his voice changed before the album came out, and la didnt know what to do with him, so he sent usher to work with puff as a last resort...the album was not considered a flop, people just complained he was singing about shyt he shouldnt have been cause he was only a kid...

2) the promotion of image and sales has been going on in hip hop since the beginning, puff wasnt the first nor the last....as for him putting that over artistry, no, he didnt...there have been plenty that have tried to emulate the shyt he did to no avail...the reason being they werent as talented as the artists he had....he always made sure you had talent first, then he added to that talent to help put you over the top....he did his job lol...

Usher was LA reid`s artists and Jermaine Dupree was producing a lot of his hits.

Diddly had very little to do with that.

if the album was a flop, usher wouldve gotten dropped...i say that cause la was having doubts before the album, that's why he sent him to puffy in the first place...the album did just enough to keep him from getting dropped....after usher's mom helped get him a larger fan base, la sent him to jd next cause jd had more experience working with younger acts...

he wanted pop stars? lol if you say so...i know it's cool to wanna hate on puffy, but the man was damn good at his job....he took the talent and took it to another level.....all you have to do is look at acts work with/without him and you can see that...but it's whatever....

Outside of KayGee from Naughty by Nature, J.D, and Puff. Aaliyah was struggling to find established writers, and established producers for her second album.
So she instead started working with unknown writers and producers at the time. one of them being "The Family" Missy, Tim, Ginuwine, Stattic, Magoo, Playa. Aaliyah and them clicked, and the rest was history. Aaliyah was their big break.
