Threadstarter is overthinking it.

Superstar is the type of player you can build a team around and go to the Finals and have a shot at winning a championship. That player is usually the most skilled player on the teams offense, can create open shots for teammates and is the player that has the ball in their hands in late 4th quarter critical situations. (EXAMPLES: LeBron, Giannis, Kawhi, KD)

Star is a second or third option type of player. They are good typically good offensively and can facilitate for lesser skilled teammates as well. They might also specialize in a none scoring area like passing, rebounding, or defense. The primary difference is the defense can contain (stop from scoring) the second option where as they cannot contain the superstar. These are not typically guys you can build a championship contender around either although good players they can be contained.
(EXAMPLES: Klay Thompson, Bradley Beal, CJ McCollum, Jimmy Butler)

Role player
is not a guy that can consistently be depended on for offense. They are specialize in one or two areas for example like 3 point shooting, defense, and rebounding. They typically do the dirty work that compliments their teams superstar and star like guarding the superstar from the opposing team to keep their teams superstar and star out of foul trouble.
(EXAMPLES: Danny Green, JJ Redikk, Marcus Smart, Trevor Ariza)

There are usually only 4-6 real superstars in the league at a given time. The rest of those guys are stars or guys on the bubble.

Jayson Tatum for example is a guy on the bubble. He's not a superstar but he's a deep playoff run or two from taking the next step.

A player being a superstar and not having a shot at winning a title has more to do with things like the talent around them, coaching, and the front office.

Giannis is a peculiar one.His ISO skills are

subpar compared to other superstars.He

scores a bunch of hustle baskets with the

occasional streaky 3pt shot.Regular seas-

on stat box champ.I don't think the Bucks

will ever sniff a ship running him as a 1st

option.Low key, best 2nd option in the lea-

gue..if you see through the hype

Superstar- a player that immediately changes your franchise and the culture of it. Your team immediately goes from the lottery or like the 8th seed to a championship contender. Like once you get this player you BELIEVE you can win a championship with a decent supporting cast of course. (Lebron, Durant, Shaq, Kahwi, Steph, Jordan, Duncan, Garnett, Kobe). Garnett to me was a superstar. he just didn't have a good cast around him.

All star- a player that has decent numbers but just not good enough to be a number one option on a championship team. Jimmy butler for example. He thinks he's a superstar but he's really just an all star. Lamarcus aldridge, Derozan, Jokic,

Role player a guy that knows his role. it could be Jared dudley whose role is to be a leader in the locker room and maybe come off he bench and hit an open 3. Trevor Ariza- 3 and d guy. Lou williams scores 20 ppg but to me he is still a role player off the bench

How is Klay Thompson a role player? :mjlol:

He plays as a traditional off-ball guard but he can also post up, screen, defend on-ball at a high level, and makes smart passes, he don't get to show it much but he has a good foot plant step back, and can dribble drive against mismatches it's not like he has zero on-ball skill.

Is Allan Houston a role player? Is Peja Stojakovic a role player? Is Rip Hamilton a role player? Is Reggie Miller a role player? Is Ray Allen a role player?
