After 2pac & Biggie died and the smoke had cleared he was the best in 97-98.

It wasn't until Stillmatic that people started really saying Nas was better.

But during the mid to late 90's when rap music reached it's pinnacle P was untouchable.

Drugs destroy men breh. Even Eminem folded and fell off from drugs.

HoE P is still quite possibly my favorite MC but damn there's not enough catalog from that special time. He was invincible.

Yea i thought Nas was great but then i heard Hell on Earth and realized there was another level to this shyt.

It took me like 10 years to come to grips with the fact P had fallen off so hard i would never hear no shyt like that again.

I'm prolly the biggest P Stan here but sometimes I think his shyt was ghostwritten.

There where some stubborn rumors back in the day that Nas had a hand in P's quantum leap from juvenile hell P to Infamous/HOE Prodigy. They always said it wasn't true but the change (loss) of writing skill after HOE was too great not to notice. I doubt it was just the drugs...

I don't see it. Enlighten a brother post his best verses becuase he doesn't spit anything that sets him apart from the gangsta rappers from his era.

Listen to the albums named in this thread..that would do it...

"We rob land like white men, plans to overthrow your whole shyt while shaking your hand" -the thought process behind lines like that makes him an all time favourite,i can always go back to that Prodigy and bug out how those young dudes were stylin with it...

i could prolly give you 10.

off-top & just from the mid-90s alone:
nas
AZ
raekwon
jay
big l
kool g rap
and more

I would have to disagree with that...i love threads like these but what gets lost from jump is the impact that an artist had at the time itself.20 yrs later we can dissect and analyze it to death, but we didn't do that when we first heard Infamous or HOE.AZ is a monster and his impact was great but he did not made his mark the way P with that grimy, crime rap around that time, regardless of the decline in skills.Kool G Rap last notable album was that 4,5,6 album,he is the daddy to east coast crime rap but in the mid 90's he wasn't at his peak anymore. Was P the best? I would say no but to just name a bunch of mid 90's rappers who where(semi) hot at the time does not do P justice as far as his impact and influence at that time. His style was copied by a lot of rappers whose names are forgotten but he,at his peak was NY top 5 all day, anyone who actually was old enough runnin the streets round that time can't dispute that.
