Keef wasn't exactly selling out House Of Blues when he started buzzing. An artist like him is considered a liability so this limits their choice of venues due to fear of insurance spikes should gang activity break out if you get what I'm saying...

There was actually an article somewhere on the Internet about some girl complaining that Keef was gonna do her birthday party or something for like $600 then when he got signed he told her his price went up to like $4,000... :whoo:

This was around his height...

It's kinda like how MGK swears he sells out shows across the US and has done over 200 shows... if you're selling out like that then it wouldn't be so hard to sell more then 150k units in 6 months. These dudes be frontin'... performing at little rinky dink clubs that people were gonna be at anyway & claiming they're getting paid thousands upon thousands when in reality they're barely seeing enough to sustain their lifestyle... not to mention the label takes their cuts & others on staff have to get paid as well like managers...

The industry is a lot of smoke & mirrors which is why I always tell cats to not believe shyt these dudes say until 5 years after their last album drops cuz that's when labels come for the I.O.U.'s once you're not worth anything anymore...

U straight lying :rudy:
Went from I worked directly with cats who paid him for shows

To something u read in a article :dead:

This whole "the record industry is going to be completely different/dead in 20 years" talk is complete BS sold to you by people who want to get paid for speaking at seminars. Notice whenever you hear these industry people speaking at these type of events that advocate this message all you hear in the crowd is a bunch of "yup", "that's what I been telling them" or *insert remark here meant to imply that the person is "with it" and knowledgeable* - that's because they are just telling those people exactly what they want to hear. It's like when Oprah is on TV, a bunch of white woman are at home nodding their head "I've been thinking the same thing . . Oprah has a lot of money, I'm smart like Oprah". There's no business like the hope business

In reality the record industry is run by the same people that own multi-national banking conglomerates

. . I'm not gonna verify this for you or point to a conspiracy theory, this information is open to the public for all those who know where to look for it

U do need record labels to get ur name all over the place. But if u want to make music u honestly love doing. Without compromising ur artistry then go indy. A lot of record labels force u to put out trash to top charts. That formula is wack now cause everybody is online. U may get radio hits and video play but aint nobody buyin shyt nowadays. U got a better chance at tours. Ofcourse its not easy and its hard work. I just prefer indy.

There are plenty of dudes out there, who haven't compromised their work for labels..

you're wrong tho, radio hits= digital single sales... that's why Flo Rida albums brick every go around, and he's still gonna continue to drop albums.

the ability to buy singles online, changed the game... people aint buying albums just for one song anymore...and you can't really just roll in a store, and buy a Maxi single like you could back in the 90's.

Tech N9ne is the GOAT Indy rapper, and he's never had a gold album...never had a hit song, it took him 20 years to get to the point of success he's at right now.

To honest theres only a handful of artists thats selling records. Im sayin if u wanna put out quality music without makin music that only matches radio standards u should go indy. Albums arent really selling. Y take the rest of owein more than u make just to put out somethin that no one will buy. Drake wayne em jay nicki and maybe kendrick nas are the only artist selling records. Give me reasons y u should go major right now. Besides the exposure.

Even Keef needed Major exposure...

He was getting $400 a show (like 3 shows a month) while "I Don't Like" was buzzing...

Interscope picks him up & just like that his price goes up to $2,000 a show & he was still getting booked 2-3 shows a month...

Without Interscope his buzzed would've fizzed out last year & would be worth less then what he is right now with a very unsuccessful career so far... :shaq:

:heh: Houston rappers that most of y'all know nothing about make way more than that for a show. They need to learn from the boys down here in Hustle Town.

Houston will always have the most successful independent scene... They were the main reason a lot of labels started cutting back because Houston artists were doing the jobs of 6-7 people at a Major gets paid for... It's also one of the main reasons NY fell off because NY was prospering at a time when Majors actually did everything for the artists...

The South changed the game... :obama:

Even if most of the independent labels were started with drug money... :leon:

Money breh, why spend my money when i can spend yours...and make my own money?

Merchandise, Tyler makes a killing off the OF Merch, so does Wiz with that Taylor gang clothing....you'd be surprised at how many people are :whoa: about buying a $12 CD, but will buy a $25 T Shirt at your show or from your Online store.

Sponsors... no way in hell as an indy artist are you gonna see Reebok,Adidas,Beats,Microsoft,Sprite,Pepsi,Ciroc,GM etc. type sponsors

you think if Tyler the Creator wasn't backed by Sony, he could get Pharrell and Erykah Badu on his album?

how you gonna afford to work with some of these dudes, when their asking prices are more than your whole album cost to make?

yeah, albums aren't selling... but there were 1.4 billion digital singles sold last year...so obviously somebody is making money.

y'all acting like major label deals are the boogeyman:heh:

i dont think mac could of crossed over

:childplease:

Mac Dre was ahead of his time and sums up all of the same appeal that 2Chainz has. For all intents and purposes he was putting out hits . . no label, no multi-national recognition, If he was alive he would be an icon
