I'm not sure that roc over premier beats in 2025 is an upgrade over roc on roc beats or roc on alc beats

Regardless, I will be listening

This right here.

Preme's best days are long gone.

But Roc is Roc, and he barely misses, so I'll definitely check it for that reason.

So how do you think that bodes for the upcoming Nas and Primo collab album?

To be honest, and I said this before, I would prefer that Premier gives Nas his older unreleased sh*t. The people won't know when he made them, lol.

The sh*t he's making now just doesn't hit the way his older tracks do. He's not as creative as he used to be. I think losing Guru affected my guy, a lot. So his newer sh*t sounds like cookie-cutter beats. The formula is tired. But he has beats in the stash from 30 years ago that could kill sh*t today! I would love to hear Nas on those.

I mean, if Primo gets in his bag and give Nas some stuff like Nas is Like or 2nd Childhood or Memory Lane, we could have a classic on our hands!

I'd prefer to hear the older unreleased stuff over 2025 preemo beats, too

That’s not it, sample clearances are a mf today. Primo cones from an era that you didn’t have to clear everything. Even on later gang starr releases: he was getting away with not clearing everything. All of that stopped with DJ Quik getting sued for sampling a foreign record (as if he didn’t learn from Monch). Now you can’t even scratch vocals of some artist or their label will sue. Hip hop is a full time business now. That’s why hip hop as a whole sucks. Back then, you could sample and pay out like 30-40% in royalties of most songs. Now it’s 50% off the top just do a piano stab. This is the reason we hear so much repetitive 2 finger trap melodies.

It would be impossible to make a Public Enemy albums like Nation of millions and FOABP today. Each SONG with 10+ samples would cost almost $600k to clear.

Preme was talking about how he cooked up like 80 beats for Jeru's first couple of albums that Jeru didn't pick. And how some of those were "the illest" beats he never got to use.

He's sitting on a lot of heat. But I know he likes to make people new sh*t from scratch. And Nas said Premier would sit with him and play him records with samples. So I know there's a thing where people kinda don’t like to do new projects with old ass beats. But for this one, we're talking instant classic, if Nas hopped on those older joints Premier didn't place anywhere else.
