he got that as a duo with timbo. he wasnt the lead or solo act.

snoop dropped doggystyle as the lead act.

you gone sit here and act like people were running to listening to an album with magoo cus of magoo like people did snoop with doggystyle?

you serious?

It doesn't matter if people ran to listen to Magoo for Magoo or not. The point is on the strength of Timbaland's production convinced people to listen. Yet people are saying that Quik isn't on the level of Dre because of the artists he produced. Well, if the production is strong enough, people will listen regardless of how good or bad the artist is. People went and copped Big Tymers albums even though neither Baby or Mannie were viewed as good or great rappers.

I don't buy that "Well, Quik worked with mediocre artists his whole career" as a reason why he never was seen as big as Dre. Put it this way, Timbaland had Magoo. MAGOO. This dude had a platinum album with hit songs.

I swear ya’ll gonna stop disrespecting Magoo like that lmao. Dudes kids probably can’t even go out in public and shyt

timb was rapping on that album too he was the draw. it wasnt just a magoo album produced by timb like doggystyle is produced by dre. you’re wrong and its ok breh but you need to realize you’re wrong.

big tymers didnt hit until they third album after the hot boy success so the cash money brand was strong.

Quik is a legend, but he's wildin'.

Quik doesn't have a Chronic, Nobody Does It Better, 2001, Doggystyle, Straight Outta Compton or a N*ggazfalife. Dre has also created legends, by curating projects for people that became household names under his tutelage. He's been a part of some of the most classic and iconic music in the history of Hip Hop, in every decade that he's been active in. Not just behind the boards, but also as an MC solo, in a legendary group and as an executive. Comparing yourself to someone with that kind of reach internationally and culturally over mad decades, is more about him struggling to make peace with his own success and legacy.

And this is exactly what's wrong with a lot of our legends. They see someone else's accolades, and always feel the need to compare their own to other people. Rather than being content with their own path and being grateful for that. No one "deserves" the rewards or successes for someone else's work. Quik needs to chill.

I'm one of the biggest Quik stans on here. I think he's just as talented as Dre behind the boards (production/engineering) and definitely a better rapper. But he burnt bridges, is bi-polar and didn't strike gold with artists he aligned with in comparison to Dre. In an alternate timeline, how much bigger would Quik be if he pivoted to producing more R&B, funk, alternative music?:jbhmm:

I swear we get a tweet or IG post from Quik about this shyt once or twice a year lmao

Dr Dre raps like a westcoast version of rakim and dj quick raps like he the 4th member of Alvin and the chipmunks.
I sound like I’m clowning but it’s an accurate description quick doesn’t have the songs Breh he just doesn’t.
Him comparing himself to dr.
Dre is laughable. He’d be better off comparing himself to sugar free. Or 2nd II none

My honest feeling is that Dre was strategic, a better businessman, and lucked out with being part of NWA early on.

Quik deserves big props as an artist and producer but he obviously lacks in the departments that Dre excels at.

They should collab more for sure. Maybe a Dre, Quik, Snoop trio.
