Nostalgia. :yeshrug:
But I agree, to each his/her own. I'm in the camp that thinks IWW was a better album. (that first verse of The Message alone :wow:). Conceptually, I think it is overlooked. I mean people praised Me and Girlfriend but Nas through that concept out there on I Gave You Power. I agree with production; it was hit or miss but consistently good production was always a weakness post Illmatic.

It has very little to do with nostalgia. It's simply a better album. Way better.

I heard IWW within a year of its release. I heard Illmatic 9 years after release. I prefer Illmatic by far.

It's not a very obvious statement. Most people I know in real life fukk wit IWW more. And that's being honest wit u. Not that I DO. But ALOT of people got put on to Nas from IWW. And I had Illmatic on cassette when it dropped. U even see alot of RAPPERS and lyricist cite IWW as their fav Nas album. Plenty of street nikkas feel that way as well. Wasnt shyt "factual" about that statement. Most people I see that hold his opinion are whiteboys. And alotta these nikkas ain't Nas fans like they claim. They Illmatic fans. Simple and plain. Nas is the ONLY artist I've EVER seen to get crucified the way he does based on his first body of work. More than ANY other rapper in his era bar none. nikka has both some of the best and absolute worst fans in hip hop.
Nas does not consider these people with this type of mentality his fans. He understands the vulture mentality of those who like to scavenge and prey on the hip hop culture. if it was up to these so called fans Nas would have been a one album artist and NOT THE LEGENDARY HIP HOP ICON HE IS TODAY. The man is criticized for being human...LOL!

Cheerleading aside, and your dodge of my response to you, there's no doubt Nas gets an extraordinary amount of hate.

With that said, some of it is self-inflicted. It's painful to see someone as brilliant as Nas dumb himself down for paper, fake love, etc. And like I said already, Nas is my favorite rapper ever and I love a lot of his songs that aren't on Illmatic.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
at the end of the day...
...IWW was just about 20yrs ago.
You're low key supporting Vlads point.

Nas problem is that his albums have a lot of highs and lows...he goes from great to bad in the same album.
Thats all someone like Vlad is saying.
So why Vlad always tryna force feed Eminem on GOAT lists? Eminem's catalog is horrible. And no I'm not making Vlad's point at all.
"Thriller was a double album" - DJ Vlad.

Yet he runs around having discussions on what album is better. Thriller vs Off The Wall. Thriller has the same amount of songs as Illmatic and this nikka called it a double album.

in all honesty.. Nas left school in 9th grade. How many people you know rich and left school at 13? What do you feel he should do for integrity and get paid for it in life? I wanna know..

What is self inflicted breh?? He dumbed himself down from what? What fake love you speaketh of after coming out in 91 and still touring the world? Nyggas fake love for over 20yrs now?

Imma sit indian style and listen

Nas does not "self-inflict" any hate upon himself. He is brilliant and carries himself like the King he is. The thing that you and others like you fail to understand is that your personal ideas of what Nas should be as an artist has no affect on Nas. What's painful for you to see brings Nas joy. Therefore, when you claim he is dumbing down for paper or fake love is your personal belief. Nas has never deliberately oversimplified his musical content. Yet, he is unfairly thought of as being a hypocrite. The man is human and he holds no super powers.
