i'm not young i guarantee i'm probably older than you.

I dont put IDAHIH on the "championship" level. It's a great album and for what its represents bringing that gritty music during all the hip pop jiggy bullshyt i'd call it classic..but its not anywhere near the mount rushmore of rap albums.. I'd call it the GRODT of its day. These days I really only care to re-listen to 3 or 4 songs. from it (all the singles but stop being greedy and MAYBE nikkaz dont started something). :manny:

flame if you will

maybe iverson was a bad example but i had just spent all day reading the ai thread at work

I won't flame u, I love a discussion. Mount Rushmore of rap would be people that carried the team for championship rings hence kobe, lebron, johnson, MJ etc getting more props than the rest of the team. DMX was a starter in 98-99 and shut the whole country down. He was the only one that had a full album produced by in-house producers and didn't conform to the "hype" during that time. You mentioned that but I don't think you understand the impact it had on the rap game. He game through and crushed every single rapper that was out there compromising their artistry to be a part of what was "in" during that time.

The album wasn't only a huge game changer but the lyrics, intensity, and production was unique. He was bringing intense story-telling, lyrical content, and passion to the forefront again. I don't think anyone can deny DMX's impact nor the greatness of It's Dark and Hell is Hot. With that said, comparing it to GRODT, which I consider as a great album, is disrespectful to the art since it is no where close to what DMX gave us in his debut.

Also, how many songs YOU re-listen to has zero impact on what the album did and it's legacy. That "personal classic" shyt is bogus, some internet forum shyt to validate stanning and dikkriding am artist. There isn't and will never be personal classics since the word classic encompasses how the majority of rap fans agree on an album being a staple in the genre.

You can tell some people are very young in here. When X first blew up, it was actually ridiculous, his music literally ruled the streets. It's funny some people call Budden and Kendrick geniuses for using a concept...they borrowed from X and his version is by far the best.

I wouldn't compare him with AI, Mike Tyson is a much better fit.

What concept is this ?

So much hilario in here. The best might be people claiming DMX detractors are young. If anything it's the other way around.

I also saw somebody say DMX & illmatic are the only 2 perfect albums ever. Ho Lee shyt.

Didn't accomplish enough to be top 10 but X in his prime was one of the best MC's I ever heard. And yes, he was lyrical. Not rippity, rapity lyrical like cornball rappers but truely lyrical. He had concepts, told stories, switched up his voice....dude was a beast. Plus he had one of the grittiest, unique voices ever. On top of that he was an official goon. I never met ANYONE in real life who don't fvck wit X. I'd put him in my Top 20.

folks hold X to an unfair standard because of how dramatically he fell apart. a LOT of all time greats have eaten well legacy wise off the strength of one classic album. X for sure has at least that one album in IDAHIH that puts him in Legend status.

I don't have any issue with someone including him in their top ten
