The man released a classic and had content in his songs during a time where content wasn't king at all. The Convo, Stop Being Greedy, How's it going down all have a substance that wasn't around then and a spirituality that was unique to him at that time. He had anthems, he had thought provoking joints and he could tell a story. This is all on ONE album...he did on one album what a lot of dudes struggle to do in a whole career. Fab is still around but he wishes he could have an album as well put together and impactful as It's Dark and hell is hot

Fab wished he could MC like X did. I swear dude is overrated as sh!t. "Swag" and tracks for b!tches almost made him a superstar.

I always forget about X since he tailed off and went crazy at the end before becoming the caricature of himself and running punch line that he is now. But I'd argue that the 3 biggest impactful artists of the 90's in terms of busting on the scene and changing the game were

1) Wu Tang
2) Snoop
3) DMX

In that order. Most of the other GOAT contenders had impact that grew and stretched longer (PAC, Nas, camel, Big, etc), but in terms of instantly changing the game, that's the list.

After X, there wasn't another game changer until CACminem, and then 50....

Word...my boy says Fab is R&B and that the game in general has taken the place of R&B but that's a different conversation
Word. And don't get me wrong, I think Fab is mad talented. Tracks like Computer Love on that Rise to Power mixtape shows how talented he is but he doesn't display that enough. Too much punchlines and R&B sh!t.

Can you even name 10 rappers more accomplished than DMX?

He sold like 20 million records off his first 3 albums. And he did all of that within 2 years. Jay-Z, Nas or Pac can't say that. DMX was basically 50 Cent before 50 Cent. In terms of being superstar hot right out the gate vs. building a career slowly.......and also because of their "aggresive content" :troll: Fifty just did it better than X.

Fab could've been the new Jay-Z but, he didn't want it bad enough.

Yea, he was red hot when he burst on the scene but his decline was epic. Contrary to coli popular belief, even after 50's reign, he still put out quality music.

DMX is in my top 15.

some people like to say that his run was short. but then they'll turn around and rank him lower than people that never even had a run.

really, before the game got dry and overly political, the average top-tier run was 3-5 years. well DMX had his 3 years, and he gave us 5 years worth of material. he couldve easily spread it out like most other rappers. and then he had a dope 2nd-tier run, culminating with grand champ, which was a success even tho def jam sabotaged it.

another problem is alot of newer fans and culture vultures are running wild on some TMZ chit. theyre more concerned with his legal & personal issues(most of which came long after the fact anyway) and they try to use that to lower his rank, as if it has anything to do with chit.

the iverson of rap. 1998-99 was his mvp season(2 albums)..but he never really won anything and has been viewed with nothing but negativity since his "retirement"

what does him being viewed negatively after his retirement have to do with anything?

keep it hip-hop.

1) Wu Tang
2) Snoop
3) DMX

In that order.

Don't confuse the truth for how you feel. I personally can't stand Feminem, but when he blew up the game got bombarded with CACs...both fans that were resisting previously, and white kids thinking it was okay to rap now :yeshrug:

his impact was moreso in the TRL realm & pop culture.

he didnt make a splash in hip-hop culture, aside from being a respectable novelty act.

No matter how crack out X is, y'all can't ever deny his late 90s impact, starting off with his colossal debut that left the game in a frenzy:myman:
