yeah i'm west indian and the nickname for sucking teeth is called "choops." but pa dukes caribbean or not was hella americanized and he wasn't havin that shyt. i did that once at great adventure because i was disappointed at being too short for a ride and he slapped me in the back of the head so hard i almost saw stars b. i turned around holding my shyt looking at him squinting in confusion and he said, "you're a man old boy, don't ever do that shyt again."

The thing is that thing became col amng the African or carribean diaspora in the West.

For many of us, back home, people were being slapped for going that. It was seen as a non verbal curse.

But now I see a lot of africans from the diaspora hold it as a sign of our culture, which is funny and ironic.

It's a part of our culture but on the bad side.
