music vids and rap lyrics are oppressing? how so? you do know they have the option not to listen, right?

black men are victims of DV at higher rates than any other race of men. not to mention, these ass whoopings dont fall out of the sky, like women would have us believe.
This music is everywhere. Your friends, family, co workers may listen to any one of these rappers mocking Black Women, or spouting some colorist agenda.

Are black men victims of DV more than BW? What about sexual assault?

Rap music is oppressing to men as well.

These fools said I like white folks.
They always talk about killing a nikka.
Who do these rappers make happy other than white supremacists?

the music isnt everywhere. be honest with yourself. where are all these horrid rap songs bashing the BW?

no, probably because men are far less likely to report any abuse from a woman. not to mention, BW are good for provoking confrontation, then calling the cops.

Yes, but it's black men oppressing black men. Are there large female rappers doing the same vice versa? Just because BM rappers do the same to BM, doesn't mean their hatred of BW is OK. That's like using White officers who've killed White people as an excuse for when they kill Black people.

Common denominator: rapper objectifying women.

Women are upset about being objectified by rappers.
then women should stop being the first ones supporting these rappers. but again, we stay with the dishonesty when it comes to rap

like women arent the first ones reciting "sexist" lyrics, or the first ones in line at a show.

if that doesnt work, stop listening -- not hard. it's what i did when i got tired of nikkas tellin me how they're gonna kill me and fukk my bytch

This tendency to put the onus of change on the oppressed is another example of the privilege we have over black women. It is part of our black male privilege.

you still haven't. proven rap music to be oppressive towards BW. where's all these hit BW bashing records?

and yes, if women want to cause a shift in a rappers subject matter--withdraw support. common sense shyt.

better yet, howbout BW just be honest and admit they're okay with being objectified. they just dont want to be replaced by mixed breeds

So in this thread, once again, I've seen a bunch of cowardly black men tell black women their experiences, tell black women what they need to change, but defect and use the excuse of having no power to absolve black men of any responsibility in our collective continued oppression of black women. To your point, maybe black women should "withdraw support" from black men in general and focus solely on their own unique issues since they get nothing in return for focusing on ours.
