Most people yelling about free speech have no idea what it actually means. It reminds me of the people that don't understand tax brackets saying "If I get a raise and make over $X amount, then I would actually lose money! So Im not gonna take the raise!".
It's really unfortunate, but it is what it is.
Facts. Most of these anti " cancel" culture folks just want to be racist and offensive without repercussions

I already gave you an example with that episode of The Simpsons. I even remember some broad complained about MJ being played at a Subway, and Subway removed the song from their playlist. It's not simply about what I consume, but the attempt to erase legacies from primarily black people.

The problem is they took something that started with heart and weaponized it. On top of the fact that the shyt is very picky choosy and black men are getting severely fukked over by this shyt. And OP is missing that people don’t just get “cancelled” over what they say. They get cancelled over any false accusation without due process or anything. U can’t even defend urself against a liar anymore.

Cancel culture, particularly around speech is VERY dangerous. It's basically a weapon of censorship.
Here's the thing... Everybody don't like us and aren't going to like us/our culture. And some of them will let that be known. Oh well. Talk shyt back if you need to then go about your day.
It's like we have do differentiate between someone(s) keeping us from real life-improving opportunities and the ability to live freely and prosperously vs. someone just calling us names and talking sh!t about us (black folk).
Those aren't the same thing.

So what's the solution then? People complaining about cancel culture have offered no solutions because they know there aren't any. Because "cancel culture" is not new. It's just different now. And really who has been truly canceled? Like name some people who have been canceled for good for just an accusation without merit?
Here's the problem with this entire discussion. When you say or do something that has been recorded or written down and you are in the public sphere, people will and do have a right to comment on it. Especially on social media because that's what those platforms are designed for- discussion. So if several people don't like something you did or said, then that's just the conversation. They are not obligated to praise you or ignore what they saw or heard on a social platform designed for conversation. They also aren't obligated to pay money to support your product, endorsement or event if they don't like what you represent. That's not "canceling", that's just Business 101. Don't say and do shyt that limits your audience and makes people not want to shell out money.
There's no going back from this. Unless the anti-cancel culture crowd is proposing a ban on people discussing things and forcing people to watch and pay for entertainment from people who they don't like, I don't see the point in bytching about it.

The primary motivation of free speech is protection from the government. Unfortunately, what we're seeing from mostly the lefty whiners is them not holding the principle of free speech and thus over time it erodes the concept.
