130k seems to be the ceiling in IT at least in the DMV. And that's with some stars aligned. It's usually those smaller IT contracting companies that landed a serious contract that will pay that.
You have to be the go to guru to get on a serious contract. Not no jack of all trades systems admin or engineer. You have to be the guy heading the implementations of all upgrades and major changes. You have to be the one that understands the entire IT infrastructure, not just network. You have to know how to resolve any issues fast. If they got to hire out and bring commercial help in. You aint getting 150k.
Dudes on here guessing and shyt. My boss makes that, no he dont. PMs and bosses are paid for totally different skills.
well since you talking out your ass bout my post, i seen all my bosses salary... they make that... and they all started at the bottom of IT.. but through people getting fired, promoted, and us getting new contracts with the state... they all make upwards of that for IT work... ain't no more implementation or even system set up.. we monitor traffic systems and they monitor us.. most cake job i ever had, that ANYBODY was doing. i'm dead ass.. we used to have 10 people, 6 of them didn't have college or certs.. 1 was hired from the state lottery, the other worked on cars and didn't know shyt.. but as long as we could teach them to type up a work order, they was getting 60k entry level cause it's considered IT
our PM was making 275k on the job.. got fired for hiring his secretary, who he was fukking, to LEAD of all statewide operations... bytch had no training.. went from 45k to 160k in a dikk suck...
we resigned the contract with the state and my pay went up 7k a year for NOTHING.. i make over 65k and i never went to school, nor have a cert, i just know computers... in the 5 years here, i've never even seen a piece of equipment.. we just automated everything so we click the right stuff, shyt gets reset and fixed.. i'm not even a team lead
my supervisor making 90k... and he sit right next to me, doing shyt...
i don't think y'all realize the power these contracts are worth.. somebody is paying 130k for IT.. my company pockets the 70k and pays us 60k... or they take the extra and overpay management. i remember getting the financials for another job.. company paying them $35 an hour for my position and i'm getting 15..
a LOT of fukkery goes on behind the scenes when it comes to money and work.. but it's still IT breh.. you still under the umbrella.. I'm still a Network Engineer on my title and it'll go on my resume I helped set up and run a state wide Network Operating Center for 5 years. My boss still NOC Manager, and is considered IT.. Whether he paid for extra duties or not.. Is he not in IT?
I'm in school to get the formal training, to have the paper.. But I'm self taught and the money is still outrageous for what I do. Now imagine what the dudes who actually hop in trucks and go out to each physical site to do IT get paid
