:wow:

Now I understand why I often lose debates/arguments. People like you exist.
i will argue my point until yours makes more sense than mine.... but that's more of compulsion than anything. anything i start, i CANNOT let go until i finish. i don't have to be right. we just have to come to a conclusion and my point has to be fully made. while good for healthy debates, it's mind racking when arguing with an idiot who can't see your point unless he agrees, and won't make any valid points (not talkin bout dude in here)... or the worst, they get theirs off, then try and duck when it's my turn

it also keeps me up at night... i can't do, "let me finish 2 things and i'll do the rest tomorrow" nah i'll lay awake in that bed until i get back up and finish it all, killing myself to wake up on time... i mean look at this response right now :mjcry:

:mjlol:Honestly there is a salary cap in IT. Unless you move over to a consulting, executive role of some sort. Everyone I know eating is getting between $80k-130k.

But in IT almost everyone i know that is in the game 10+ years starts their own consulting/contracting company and start bidding for fed contracts or subcontracts.

130k seems to be the ceiling in IT at least in the DMV. And that's with some stars aligned. It's usually those smaller IT contracting companies that landed a serious contract that will pay that.

You have to be the go to guru to get on a serious contract. Not no jack of all trades systems admin or engineer. You have to be the guy heading the implementations of all upgrades and major changes. You have to be the one that understands the entire IT infrastructure, not just network. You have to know how to resolve any issues fast. If they got to hire out and bring commercial help in. You aint getting 150k.

Dudes on here guessing and shyt. My boss makes that, no he dont. PMs and bosses are paid for totally different skills.

$150k is a starting salary for a new grad in the Bay
Plenty of software developers make over $150k. I'm not going sit here and pretend it's EASY to get to that. Even the new grads getting $150k in salary and 100k in RSUs from places like FB and Google usually come from elite schools and go thru tough interviewing process.
But yes it's entirely possible to make that kind of money if you put the work in

edit: edited it from "IT" to software developers. Maybe that's why people are doubting the 150k claims. I'm not even sure what's all covered in "IT". for instance my friend works in "IT", but all he does is reset passwords and image lab computers. Would be surprised if he made $50k. My comment is specific to software developers

well since you talking out your ass bout my post, i seen all my bosses salary... they make that... and they all started at the bottom of IT.. but through people getting fired, promoted, and us getting new contracts with the state... they all make upwards of that for IT work... ain't no more implementation or even system set up.. we monitor traffic systems and they monitor us.. most cake job i ever had, that ANYBODY was doing. i'm dead ass.. we used to have 10 people, 6 of them didn't have college or certs.. 1 was hired from the state lottery, the other worked on cars and didn't know shyt.. but as long as we could teach them to type up a work order, they was getting 60k entry level cause it's considered IT

our PM was making 275k on the job.. got fired for hiring his secretary, who he was fukking, to LEAD of all statewide operations... bytch had no training.. went from 45k to 160k in a dikk suck...

we resigned the contract with the state and my pay went up 7k a year for NOTHING.. i make over 65k and i never went to school, nor have a cert, i just know computers... in the 5 years here, i've never even seen a piece of equipment.. we just automated everything so we click the right stuff, shyt gets reset and fixed.. i'm not even a team lead

my supervisor making 90k... and he sit right next to me, doing shyt...

i don't think y'all realize the power these contracts are worth.. somebody is paying 130k for IT.. my company pockets the 70k and pays us 60k... or they take the extra and overpay management. i remember getting the financials for another job.. company paying them $35 an hour for my position and i'm getting 15..

a LOT of fukkery goes on behind the scenes when it comes to money and work.. but it's still IT breh.. you still under the umbrella.. I'm still a Network Engineer on my title and it'll go on my resume I helped set up and run a state wide Network Operating Center for 5 years. My boss still NOC Manager, and is considered IT.. Whether he paid for extra duties or not.. Is he not in IT?

I'm in school to get the formal training, to have the paper.. But I'm self taught and the money is still outrageous for what I do. Now imagine what the dudes who actually hop in trucks and go out to each physical site to do IT get paid

Only six figure IT guys I know are in cyber security and finance.
If you are doing government IT I suggests cats look at cybersecurity jobs at FFIEC-affiliated agencies. These agencies have expanded pay ranges beyond what you can get on the regular GS pay scales better benefits.

Also, you should be changing jobs every 2-5 years. That is how you get your salary up.

I am a member of the 150k+, 8 cert, multiple degree club.

You mean starting "Total Comp" not base salary. Those making 140+ in base are rare cases/not the typical case of a new grad at a Big 4.

Outside of San Francisco and shyt, the only way a dev is making that kinda money in salary is by being tenured in management. If you really wanna get to this software money you gotta get a lawyer and learn how to get contract gigs popping off with NO MIDDLE MAN. They're paying these recruiting agencies like 200 an hour and the recruiting agencies are giving you 80 of that 200. Just lawyer up, make connections and you can easily get a contract popping making double that 150 a year. And you can file as your own llc and get your tax refunds up.

No I mean base salary. All of this is based on location, but the majority of good software jobs are based on location so i'm not sure it makes sense to characterize it as "rare" even though technically that may be true. A software developer making $150k in Jacksonville probably is rare.....but there ain't a lot of software jobs there relative to other locations. $150k salary is not rare in the Bay, Seattle, Denver, NYC, DC (private sector) or Austin. It's not even rare in Philly/Wilmington though not as common as the mentioned locations

Yes, depends on what skillsets you bring to the table. If you are good, you can work from home and have two jobs.

Some of the skillsets are bringing close to $125K to the table....

Lying azz bums on here:russ:

like someone making 150k+ going to really show these customer service reps their W2s?
:francis:

You know how nikkas do.

Starts off "he got to be making 150k or more"

turns into

"i know he making 160k" with no evidence

now its "i know a dude making 160+"

:mjlol:

There's 1000 IT big ballers on this board, notice not one has claim to be making more than 120k?
:sas2:

Its always, my boss, my boy, this dude. :camby:
