ehhhh yeah they get paid an absurd amount but is it really that absurd when people are willing to pay the asking prices to see them perform? professional bowlers aren't millionaires, why is that? because nobody gives a fukk about bowling.

I like basketball and football and I like to see it played at an elite level. I can't fault athletes for getting paid what the market says they are worth.

I would say the risk of injuries and the long term effects they have play a part in this discussion. Let's take the NFL for example. With all the concussions players get, comes many long term problems. Different types of neurological problems come into play. Memory loss, deterioration of motor skills, even brain damage so bad it makes players commit suicide and donate their brains for study.
In all sports, there's ex players walking with canes, getting hip and knee replacements, bad backs. All the physicality and travel really takes its toll on their bodies after awhile. Sports can really shorten lives after awhile.
As someone else stated earlier, there's the entertainment aspect of it. Sports is many people's way of escaping the harsh realities of everyday life. How many of you come home from working a 9-5,pop open a beer, then turn on ESPN or log into the coliseum. Hell I'm in the sports media business and fans thank me for giving them a laugh. And I feel as if I didn't do shyt:damn: So just think how much they enjoy the players if media members are getting props:whoo:
Also if leagues, networks, owners, and gms are pulling in insane amounts of cash why shouldn't players cake off of it:manny: Ultimately its about them anyway.
Having said all that,I'll never say I feel sorry for athletes that run into physical problems, financial problems, divorce problems,or any other types of issues because that's the life they chose(no NaStradamus)

You brothers have a complete and utter lack of perspective. Let's Take several things into consideration.

1.I would trade my life as a Student/past life as a mover/grocery worker to be the CEO of a fortune 500 company tomorrow, and as would all of you. But I will not discount that being a CEO is just as mentally arduous as my job is physically or mentally arduous.
2.The vast majority of you don't even have physically arduous jobs. You sit in an Air Conditioned office and fill out spreadsheets, reports, and go to meetings. The ones of you that have physically arduous jobs that are in demand (construction, unionized factory, ect.) are usually well compensated it for it relative to what you're putting into it. The ones of you who don't and are working minimum wage jobs are either unlucky and are stuck at that job or do not have the ambition to do something else.
3.These professional Athletes workout harder every day than you've ever worked out in the hardest single session inyour entire life. They wake up, repeat and do that sheet every day. And they've been doing this since they were kids, or else they would not have made it to that junction.
4.There is no "off time" as a professional athlete. You're constantly working on getting an edge on your competitor, because like you guys have insinuated, your career doesn't laast too long, and you're never guaranteed a job.
5.The Injury RISK is real. Forget Football and hockey, which poses life threatening and debilitating injuries for EVERY single player. even ,soft sports like baseball and basketball, typically end up with you suffering from ARthritis earlier than other people of your age, as well as being dependent on painkillers and other drugs that would keep your competitive edge despite your body telling you that its UNNATURAL to do this every single day of your entire post-puberty life.
6.These neegaz have a tremendous skill. And I mean a tremendous skill. In Life, no matter what walk of life it is, you will get paid handsomely if you can do something extremely well. If you're the best damn janitor on the planet, best believe you're going to get a reward that the average janitor won't get. These neegaz can do things with their body, hands, feet, and skillset that you goofs go out and try to replicate and fail miserably, and can't comprehend how someone could regularly do that. Extreme Skill = Extreme PAy, especially when that skill is something that wonders humanity, as humanity is amazed by the continuous pushing of the limits of the human body and human dexterity.

There's nothing to grasp your mind around. These nikkaz are THAT Good to the point that you, I, and all of the World will willingly pay money to watch them play. It's simple as that, IF we weren't interested in watching Mesi, Kobe, and Adrian PEterson they would have no market...but we are.

so you goofs need to reevaluate your own lives, stop the badmind mentality, and work on getting yours instead of pretending to act amazed for what these heroes are rightfully earning

At the end of the day athletes are paid to provide entertainment just like every other type of media. The market pays for what the people want :yeshrug:

Breh, as a former 2 sport college athlete with close associates playing multiple major sports...you've hit it right on the dot.

*Daps*

People don't understand why athletes need that sense of relief at night and why they party the way they do or do the crazy shyt they do. Cause most know the life, the fame... is temporary. Any day, they can be out a job. Its a release for waking up at 4am working, training, studying thru 8pm with devious expectations. The stress of being an athlete, the cognitive narcissism involved and responsibility they feel amongst themselves to remain the apex is indescribable. The expectations, knowing that millions of eyes are on you. The judgement, most of u cats cant take someone thinking something negative about you...just imagine everyone posting opinions about you who dont even know you.

When an NFL athlete losses his job, he gets nothing, contract(or lack there of) is voided.

When a CEO gets fired, he receives a severance package worth millions on millions.

Only thing that gets me is when some players get paid and then stop giving effort but yet and still say they would play their certain sport for free because of how much they love it. I mean these cats get paid more than doctors for games that everyone has played at one time or another as a youth. Then the have the nerve to talk about not being compensated for their talents. You got guys arguing about making 50 million dollars when they feel they are worth 75 million dollars while it is the average Joe who scrapes together enough money to buy a ticket or a jersey and is the main reason why you are making the money that you are. These players get a per diem everytime they are on the road plus free clothing and shoes have transportation to and from games and some still don't realize the that is a privilege to be a pro athlete.

Real Talk tho...some of you muthafukkas can't even spend 2 hours (less than 10% of your day) working out.... but acting like being a pro athlete is easy....cause they play a game for a living.

honestly though, it is hard work to train and all that shyt to stay in shape for their sport(s)

but I train hard running and do lifting just for the fun of it, and they do the "work" I do for fun but get paid :wow: and THEN they get paid to play the game itself :wow:

Great thread. I was geekin the other night & wanted to make a thread on what's a realistic amount of money athletes should be paid? Obviously us as people have made their contracts skyrocket but in a different world what's a fair price to be a professional athlete? Not including endorsements, etc. because that's another discussion
