I dont disagree with what got us here, im just saying we are here now.

I, for one, dont like the overly done black stereotypes u see in reality tv. Oddly enough, some of the most profitable"black" tv shows are reality.

I bet you can film 20 seasons of love and hip hop for the cost of 1 season of Westworld

To be fair The Get Down ranks as Netflix’s most expensive show in the company’s history. Episodes ran in excess to like 18 mil an episode. They couldn’t afford to keep it going past the 2nd season

I hear what you’re saying though

A lot of Black ppl that like these shows only like them because it shows a successful Black family dynamic, and they are worried at how Black ppl are viewed on tv by white ppl.

The black producers, directors and writers on these shows tend to overcompensate on the politics (survivor's guilt for their massive paychecks from the white corporations who fund them like ABC and Netflix).

The jokes and natural storytelling takes a backseat to making a "statement."

Sanford and Son and Martin didn't have the pressure to replace the duties of the NAACP like these current show try to do.

The tweeter is a Haitian who came to the US in 2003.

Black shows today are far fewer in number and revolve around “Black” experiences and thinking with a capital B instead of having mainly/only Black casts. There’s also a class difference stressed from then and now.

It goes back to the"do you wash your chicken" question

Alotta Islanders (and by proxy East Coasters) think vinegar, lime, and/or lemon juice cleans bacteria off of their meat. It doesn't. :yeshrug:

I thought that was some Caribbean shyt to be honest. My coworker won't eat fish unless she knows it's been cleaned with lime.
