Black TV shows are no longer authentically black in terms of atmosphere, ebonics, clothing, food, hairstyles, etc like in the 80s & 90s or early 00s...majority of these "black" shows nowadays are "safely" made for white people and the few black ppl who have that The Root, Shea Butter/Twitter, I have white friends, etc mentality.

When y’all say successful do you mean like top 10 in ratings overall or good enough to bring back for another season? There is surely merit in both...I’m just referring to a more traditional sense

Yup, white people don't know much about those shows nor cared to watch because they're too "black" if you know what I mean...
The only black show I've seen white people know by heart is Fresh Prince (which is somewhat neutral).
Any of the other black sitcoms from the 80s & 90s it'd be rare to hear or see a white person watching/talking about em.
They remember it as the show “friends”Living single. I’m yet to meet a non black person who remembers that show

Its made black shows have to be bland and for everybody.
I'm also going to say look at who gets the big opportunities now, a certain type of black female is now the gatekeeper in a lot of cases. Especially for TV stuff.
And so these shows have all melded into one long blue tick twitter fest. It's all so milquetoast.

who are these black females on TV who have so much sway.
Oprah has been hosting shows since the 80s she earned her way to the top and has carved her own space . I like some of her shows on her network but not everything.
I don’t like Lena Waithe she is a woman only in DNA but her mind thinks like a dude and her projects reflect that and don’t really depict BW in a complex way, don’t like anything she produces.
Ava Duvernay- I cant think of anything she has done off the top of my head.

Yep, and to add insult to injury her writing sucks.
What I have noticed that black entertainment has become very gendered now. Many black artists in the 90s collabed together, and worked together women and men produced great content together. Some grew up together and hustled together and see that camaraderie play out on stage.
Fast forward today there is a definitely a gender polarity in black entertainment. Black men create content only for them and black women create content only for women. I think it’s a reflection of today’s black Stars mentality and how they operate behind the scenes. I also think this applies to the music entertainment as well.
it’s unfortunate but I think Black people are their best when the sexes work together because we bring 2 worldviews and balance each other. It seems that each content is created for the consumption of other races rather than our own enjoyment.
