Virtually every artist has a song or songs in there discography where they've tried to branch out. Nothing wrong with that. Ushers prime though was straight R&B. 8701, Confessions, Raymond vs Raymond. That's how all of us knew him. He's an R&B star. One of the biggest of all time.

I'd say R&B leaning pop

That's how I would categorize a lot of his biggest hits ww

The songs I posted included.... and they are from the Raymond vs Raymond album

How would you categorize Yeah or Love In Club?

I put him in the same pile as Chris Brown, MJ, Whitney, Beyonce, The Weekend to a certain extent

Not your traditional r&b artist

That said you think Usher has played a role in the evolution of R&B? While enormously successful I still see him as a Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown hybrid

They’re the most impactful, because they’re the archetype for artistry in the genre that has been the most copied. Add longevity into the equation, I don’t see how they couldn’t be.

Slight tangent but one of the craziest musical facts to me is the Isley brothers made ‘Shout’ :damn:

For some reason that is mind boggling to me. it feels like they are a group associated with the 70s. Who’s that Lady was 72. Choosy lover was 83.

They made Shout in 1959 :damn: Their contemporaries were Elvis and buddy holly, barbershop quartettes n shyt

Ron Isley is in my personal top 5

Or maybe the metrics count cause what white boy, let alone at Complex is picking Musiq Soulchild? :comeon:

Mike was THE performer but had zero ballads. I went off of singing ability (ballads)

MJ had ballads:
Lady in my Life
I just can't stop loving you
She's out of me life
I can't help it
Liberian Girl
You are not alone

Michael Jackson is the greatest entertainer who ever lived, bar none, and the only person in the original post deserving of a spot IMO.
Usher lost a lot of steam after Confessions if we're gonna keep it 100.
Chris Brown is crazy talented, but his catalog doesn't match up to Usher's, let alone MJ's.

R.Kelly? Under the jail.
