Josema looked like a freakazoid. I think he will be Olympia champ soon. Just needs to get his legs up. He and Wesley gotta do it while dealing w/ the weight cap which means cutting back on upper body training.I would have given it to Josema over Ruffin.
And I thought Nick was overall more impressive than Derek. But Derek had the better midsection and glutes, pause.
You’re plugged into the bodybuilding game more than I am.Josema looked like a freakazoid. I think he will be Olympia champ soon. Just needs to get his legs up. He and Wesley gotta do it while dealing w/ the weight cap which means cutting back on upper body training.
Ruffin looked small next to Josema and even next to Mike the badass and Dino in the guest posing.. Ruffin needs to switch up his ultra low volume training. If you watch his training vlogs he does 4-6 working sets per workout. Even in the offseaon when he was 30+ lbs up he was still only doing the bare minimum sets.
Quad sweep is when you have the roundness on the outside of your legs. This helps creates an "X frame" when you also have well developed lats. Ruff has both so he has an X frame which is what the judges prefer. Josema has more of a "Y frame", due to having well-developed lats but no quad sweep. You’re plugged into the bodybuilding game more than I am.
I don’t catch all the nuances of the sport. And it’s often difficult for me to separate one physique from another.
A while back I might have seen a clip of Dorian Yates saying that the average person doesn’t understand how the judging works. So while some guys might seem impressive, you have to look at it as them scoring body part for body part. That helps me understand it a bit better.
Anyway, I think in Hany Rambod’s YouTube he said that the judges seemed to favor the overall aesthetic than the outright size that has been the norm for years.
Makes you wonder if the sport is gonna lean back in that direction or if it was just a one off thing with the judges in Pittsburgh.
Putting my tin foil hat on, since the Manions essentially run the IFBB amd the Pittsburgh Pro is their direct show I am leaning towards them trying to move things back to the "aesthetic" side of things. which leads me to answering below......You’re plugged into the bodybuilding game more than I am.

... The IFBB shot themselves in the foot long ago by letting the mass monster craze take over. The sport was supposed to maintain that "aesthetic" look. Where you do look extremely muscular but can be considered "athletic" too. Only mass monsters that are athletic are anime characters.....I think part of the problem is the ifbb hasn't clearly articulated what they are looking for in "Classic". At one time the Y-frame was the staple in the classic era, so some people think Josema/Wesley better personify "classic era" physique. But it seems they still prefer the X-frame.
Arnold for example had a Y-frame. Damn, now that I think about it, Josema favors him a lot.

Yup, I hate that mass monster look. When Shawn Rhoden won the Olympia, I thought things would trend more toward aesthetic from the bubble guts with the likes of Phil Heath.Putting my tin foil hat on, since the Manions essentially run the IFBB amd the Pittsburgh Pro is their direct show I am leaning towards them trying to move things back to the "aesthetic" side of things. which leads me to answering below......

"Classic" should've just been "bodybuilding" but tje freak factor took over.. ... yea it is a spectacle to see, but it doesn't appeal beyond that. Pretty sure the Weiders wanted to make bodybuilding mainstream when they started out and then backed Arnold with the funds to get his whole career popping. Not sure who allowed it to deviate in the 90's with Dorian and Benout and then fly off the rails..
Levrone said Joe Weider told him that Dorian was the money-maker so everyone would be fighting for second.Putting my tin foil hat on, since the Manions essentially run the IFBB amd the Pittsburgh Pro is their direct show I am leaning towards them trying to move things back to the "aesthetic" side of things. which leads me to answering below......

'94/'97 Dorian were wrong decisions. Shawn Ray and Nasser should have won those shows. There’s always been controversy around the Olympia.
Isn’t Arnold’s 1980 title the most famous robbery?
Or whatever year it was.
Then I think Dorian had 1 year where people felt he should have lost.
And I think even Ronnie Coleman had a sketchy year in like 1999 after he got his 1st one.
I’m not trying to bash any guy because they’re all legends but I think a lot of guys had contests where they probably could have taken an L
Hell yeah, Kai is one of the goats and would probably be cleaning up in this era. He probably could/should have won of those Olympias.@dtownreppin214
I heard someone say that if it wasn’t for Phil Heath, Kai probably would have won all of those years. He could have had 6 or 7 titles.
Is Kai the best bodybuilder to never win one?
I feel like he might be.
Kai or Flex Wheeler.
Those exact three you mentioned drive me insane......'94/'97 Dorian were wrong decisions. Shawn Ray and Nasser should have won those shows.
'07 - Victor Martinez/Jay Cutler is my personal worst
