he's got a frame thats similar to others that are historically known to be injury prone. Plus he's French. You can say what you want about that history, but stereotypes aside I think it will def be some language blocks and culture shocks that could hinder him as well. He can still be great, but i dont expect him to be great for a long time...and certainly not right away. As much ridiculous hype as past players have had i think Lebron is the only #1 with unreal hype who exceeded expectations.

History is against him at this point. French players outside of Tony Parker do not fare well in the league. Players his height and build do not survive long either. When was the last time we had an all star over 7'2? Yao?

I'm not buying the hype on this kid but I hope I'm wrong.

I don't now, nor have ever cared about "hype". That's for marketing purposes. I wait to see how the player actually performs on the court. That said, he has the tools to be a special player. The height, movement, skill, etc. for someone that tall hasn't been seen before. However, he still has to put it all together on the court, stay away from the injury issues that have plagued other players of that height, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing if he can pull it off, and hope he's able to be a phenomenon.

Eh, outside of giving Zion that extension before earning it, there was no real coddling. He's a 300-pound highflyer, his body type and play style are double dose of anti-durability. There was no real choice other than load management.

Using that and trying to go the opposite way for Wemby wouldn't work, again other than playing out his full rookie deal and seeing if he can develop and be counted on for 70 games instead of paying him and crossing your fingers.
They sat zion while healthy and went through that whole "teaching him how to walk" saga and even withheld him from crucial games and playoff games that could have helped him gain valuable on court experience and yes, while often injured, he hasn't played a meaningful minute of basketball in his career basically to this day. If he does finally get a clean bill of health it feels like he'll be doing it cold turkey with no real chemistry or familiarity with his teammates at all

If he stays healthy the sky is the limit for him imo, I want to see him close to the basket at all times too. He doesn't need to be doing all that crossing up and between the leg dribbles at 7'5 playing on the perimeter, go dominate.

So they shouldn't have attempted to correct his biomechanics to try and extend his career?

To me I just think his body was/is a ticking time bomb period, trying to stick him in these "crucial games" would just accelerate that timeline. Zion needs to do better at controlling his weight which he should be able to do with or without the Pelicans.
