I understand pride from a community standpoint, family, blood and a shared bond. Patriotism doesn't play a role to me but I understand if some people do,feels like a one way relationship to me though. As a black man I feel that nationalism could help but n viewed through the lens of the white colonialist frame of mind. If an AA says he is proud to be American I take that as proud to have his heritage, his bloodline ,that was earned, not given. It doesn't mean he is proud to be from a country that was build on the the bones of his ancestors and gets treated like a stepchild because of it. I feel pride to be Surinamese but we were shipped there,so my pride is a testament to my ancestors that crawled through mud and fought their way out of slavery so I could walk freely and proudly, the Dutch never had an impact on how I feel about myself, their role was documented but if they couldn't stop my ancestors prideful walk to freedom, how the fukk could they stop me from being proud to be black and Dutch? even living in their country and dealing with their bullshyt won't change that,my folks earned that right, they just rolled out of their mamma's white p*ssy.

I'm an ambivalent American. I was fortunate to be born in the leading empire at this time in history but I had no hand in it being what it is and it's an empire that has plenty of faults and cracks.

Do I want it to be better? Yeah, but as an average individual, I won't be able to affect change or shape its future, so I have no reason to feel pride or shame for what I was born into.

America is the reason for the trash culture that’s taken over the world through Hollywood and globalization. Lack of spirituality and focusing on materialism. So to answer your question: Helllllll no

Hell yes.

Mfs really don't know how good they got it cuz they've never been nowhere. The rest of the world is super fukked up. For most of the entire worlds history, countries were ruled by dictators. America's the first real "democracy."

America's one of the very few countries (if only) in the world where you can go from dirt poor (regardless of race) to the top 1 percent. The only place where you can make money doing just about anything. All the most beautiful women in the world are here. Many cultures, food, and languages are spoken here. There's a demographic for just about anyone to blend in with or market to. We have 50 states and various territories to choose from.

Now yeah, America has its long list of issues... But no place is perfect. To hate this country would mean to be completely blind to all the mess going on in other countries that are much worse (Brazil, North Korea, Russia, India, etc).

I would say no.

I'm certainly lucky to have been born American.

But proud? When I think of America's history of violence and racism, and what modern-day America's reputation is on the international stage, I gotta say no I'm not proud of that.
