I understand pride from a community standpoint, family, blood and a shared bond. Patriotism doesn't play a role to me but I understand if some people do,feels like a one way relationship to me though. As a black man I feel that nationalism could help but n viewed through the lens of the white colonialist frame of mind. If an AA says he is proud to be American I take that as proud to have his heritage, his bloodline ,that was earned, not given. It doesn't mean he is proud to be from a country that was build on the the bones of his ancestors and gets treated like a stepchild because of it. I feel pride to be Surinamese but we were shipped there,so my pride is a testament to my ancestors that crawled through mud and fought their way out of slavery so I could walk freely and proudly, the Dutch never had an impact on how I feel about myself, their role was documented but if they couldn't stop my ancestors prideful walk to freedom, how the fukk could they stop me from being proud to be black and Dutch? even living in their country and dealing with their bullshyt won't change that,my folks earned that right, they just rolled out of their mamma's white p*ssy.
