I feel pride to be Surinamese

I had never really thought about the surinamese until we met some in Amsterdam. We had wandered into a certain bar cuz we saw old bm chilling outside. They had serena on tv whooping some white girl ass, truly a beautiful diaspora moment. Very cool ppl, bought us dinner our last night there. They looked like us too.

Not really, the only time I even got remotely patriotic was after 9/11. But I hate how the US government is always using the armed forces to meddle in overseas shyt when there is so much that's fukked up right here on the mainland of America.

After the last 5 years I'll never be like "I love America." This is where I live and I wouldn't wanna go anywhere else but just think how great this country could be if they put the effort into America's mainland issues (racism, discrimination, homelessness, wealth gap, poverty, corruption of politicians, police and their obvious biasness just to name a few) like they put into those places overseas.

If it was some how my call on whether the US continues to exist or not. I would choose no for the betterment of the rest of the world even if it meant I ceased to exist somehow to. That gives perspective on my sentiments

I'm an ambivalent American. I was fortunate to be born in the leading empire at this time in history but I had no hand in it being what it is and it's an empire that has plenty of faults and cracks.

Do I want it to be better? Yeah, but as an average individual, I won't be able to affect change or shape its future, so I have no reason to feel pride or shame for what I was born into.

Yes,a large group of expats and students. They enjoy the perks that come with bringing the strong euro currency into the country that is in a deep inflation due to mismanagement and corruption. The ethnic make up of the country is diverse,the descendants of slaves are called creole,indian immigrants brought into the country after slavery was abolished, Indonesian,Chinese immigrants and the native tribes of the Amazon (Arawaks for example). It makes the country diverse and at the same time holds it back from reaching it's full potential. A large oil field was discovered two years ago, worth billions but the ethnic favoritism and corruption makes it hard to work towards a common goal so the Chinese,Americans and European conglomerates are having a field day. The young and able study abroad and some of them return but a large contingent live in the Netherlands,the Antilles or the US. Amazing country with smart and loving people but social cohesion is hard to maintain cause the ethnic lines are hard to get rid off,even if the intermarriage between them is prevalent,sans the indian immigrants,they are hardliners for the most part but a lot of the people are in one way or another mixed by heritage.
