Do you feel like the Thunder’s historic season is getting enough attention?

The greats you named have had moments where their being cocky and people either hated or loved them for it. Larry Bird came into the 3 point contest and asked everybody who coming in second. Steph don't do much trash talking, but he will do a shammy like no other while buring a 40 foot 3. Plus Draymond trash talking is still a reason for Golden State being hated, people wanted to see them lose. OKC literally is know just for basketball which is a good thing, but for the new generation of teens/early 20's you will literally see a tweet with thousands of likes saying OKC is boring because they don't do shyt. I don't know if it's brainwashing because of the 24/7 drama cycle we have with social media, but I think that's it.
Steph was still held up as an example of humility even with all that extra shyt he was doing. Jordan was known and actually knocked for never rocking the boat. That Bird shyt was in the locker room and known after the fact and user as an example of his killer mentality. People aint know Magic was an a$$hole until recently. Thats still not his prevailing rep. All elite hoopers are cocky but they arent known for it. Shai is most definitely cocky.

The real issue for Shai is he wasnt supposed to be here AND his game isnt exciting and palatable for the casual fan. The Thunder are a legit team. People have never cared about that. And yeah people today are more invested in "who is beefing" or "who wants out" drama than the game itself. But hey that might change with NBC and Amazon

Its a star driven league in terms of attention and always has been. SGA got the free throw merchant rep a few years back and he just doesnt have the appeal previous stars did so the casual fan, ie the folks that drive ratings and talking head show numbers, just aren’t as invested. SGA is undoubtedly great but a lot of folks just arent that interested in seeing them play, and the only one that ever has anything interesting to say is Chet. They’ll be great for years but idk if they’ll break through in terms of general interest.

I think compared to the ‘16 Warriors the difference is

A) 72-10 hadn’t been legitimately challenged in like 20 years so there was excitement for it. Must shorter turnaround now and since the Warriors didn’t win the title I think more ppl are apathetic about regular season win totals in general.

B) While the numbers are up there, SGA is nowhere near as box office as Steph. Arena would be damn near packed just with people coming to watch him warmup. He legitimately transcended the sport. SGA has nowhere near that pull.

C) The Warriors were also on a bit of a revenge tour after people spent the offseason discrediting their title win, calling it a fluke, they only won bc of injuries.

D) Even though the Warriors were dominating, them winning a title didn’t feel as inevitable as OKC’s is. Cleveland, San Antonio & OKC were all seen as viable opponents. OKC now seem closer to the ‘17 Warriors where it feels like the only thing that can stop them from a title is health

U cooked :whew:

I would say that guys like Shai, Giannis and Jokic are living proof that NBA “fans” are fickle bytches who don’t actually know what they want. So much complaining about 3 point spam and the death of post/mid range game and yet these 3 are the best players in the league doing none of those things.

Shai lives in the mid range and has a lot of the Kobe footwork you dudes drool over. Yeah yeah free throws guess what MJ, Kobe, Wade all them mfs were on the same timing. Jokic a low post god who can score at all levels and distribute. Giannis is basically the love child of Shaq and LeBron.

Despite all that, mfs claim the new crop of stars are “boring”. :pachaha: And that’s your main reason the OKC chatter isn’t there.

nikkas also used to complain NBA lacks parity, favors big markets, and every season you know who’s gonna win but we have data that consistently show that fans prefer big market dynasties and the thrill that comes from hoping an underdog can take them down. The league has had like 7 diff champions in the last 7 years or some shyt with many of them being small market teams and interest is at its lowest in a while. :dead:

Silver needs to figure out what it is about basketball in particular that causes these fickle fans who “age out” when the gen they like is old and gone.

It's early December. A long ways to go AND there's the NFL season going right into the playoffs and the college football season going right into their own playoffs.

If the Thunder are still on a historic pace in early February people will talk about it
