Just did a tuneup on my TL. Spark plugs, ignition coils, oil & air filter, PCV valve

Mf run like a brand new car:blessed: Car note free life

Fellas, I’m not a mechanic by any means. Everything I’ve learned is from YouTube, car forums, or my pops. Spend $200 and go get you some tools from harbor freight.

Obviously complicated Engine or transmission work I leave to a professional shop. But regular maintenance(brakes, tuneup, oil change, suspension work) I do myself

They're expensive, but do your oxygen sensors too. You should see a very noticeable difference in performance and milage.

I'd also ditch the K&n personally. Tthe oils from it will get on your maf sensor and gum it up, robbing you of performance. The lexus engineers knew what they were doing when designing the intake. Keep it stock (imo)

Threw some Michelins on, alignment, new struts, new control arms in the front. Took me most of the day yesterday, my guy at work has a heated garage he let me use.

Car drives like it did in 08’ now no more rattles or shakes :blessed:

Only started once my 4G TL failed inspection for tints.

So I took off the tint and came back for dude to say nah u gotta fix your lights, tires etc.

I was mad for getting the runaround. Then dealers want to charge me crazy prices to fix little things.

Said fuk that and bought the parts myself, watched some YouTube vids, fixed it myself. Inspection passed with another guy.

Now the battery sensor is on and mechanics want to charge 400 for a tiny sensor. Car is fine and battery is great but sensor is faulty. I’m thinking of fixing it myself but not sure

I want a 4G TL but I never cared for the body styling…too bulbous looking.

Also I’m glad I don’t live In a state with inspections :camby: Only thing I worry about is emissions every other year and I usually pass

I've always done my own maintenance starting from when I was a teen up to this day. On my current car, the biggest jobs I've performed have been replacing the transmission and doing the timing chain guides which would have billed at 80 hours just on labor. Saved myself $15-20k on these two jobs alone. Best part is that the money invested in tools basically pays for itself and can always be used on the next job as well.

Here's a good tool set that can cover the basics of pretty much any job that you'll come across

DEWALT 205pc Mechanics Tool Set

For specialty stuff, as a hobbyist/consumer, for things like torque wrenches and such I've been a fan of Tekton as their warranty is really good. If something breaks, all you gotta do is send a pic of the tool as proof of ownership and they'll send you out a new one for life

Just did cabin and engine filters yesterday. Was going to do my oil change today but got busy. I have flushed the radiator and done coolant before but have been busy but trying to do more myself. Honestly never done brakes but that is next on my learn list.

Most complex thing (and it wasn't) I ever did was my coolant temp sensor on my old Volvo. b*stards at the dealership wanted $700. I bought $100 part and with Youtube and 2 hours did it myself with tools I had on hand. Mechanics can try to hustle you serious.
