First off, stop saying THATS WHAT PEOPLE ARE TRYING SOUND LIKE.

You post 1 video and all of a sudden, everyone trying to get into music is just as crappy?

I’m around enough people/artists to know what people are trying to sound like and it’s not always the same thing either...

:patrice: Slow down and re read what I said fam

Never said they were “trying” to sound like anything, I said they do. There ain’t too many 30 year old aspiring rappers sounding like drake, migos or thugger

Also if you’re that age, look into getting your music placed in commercials, video games, and indie films

And how do you do that, oh wise music industry man?

Everyone got suggestions but ain’t no where near the actual ACTION...

The point I’m making is stop hating on people trying to improve. People trying to make their way thru music are going about something a lot more abstract than most people do in there day to day lives.

And, as much as we’d like to believe there’s a standard, it’s kind of the Wild West until you reach a certain plateau.

:russ: this is the SAME FACIAL EXPRESSION i make everytime im at work and some 30 something year old temporary worker approaches me because he "heard i use to work in the music industry" and he got some "fiyah" that he wants me to check out and give my input on....
:beli:

it's also the same FACIAL EXPRESSION i make everytime im just out with my kid passing thru the mall to get some items and i get approached by some 30 something year old guy and his "clique" passing a CD to me and asking me to SUPPORT LOCAL HIP HOP with a donation of some sort

i've just made this FACIAL EXPRESSION recently with my ex over the phone who wants me to ASSIST her 31 year old cousin with an upcoming Mixtape release party in ATL .....

she got upset and called me an AZZHOLE and a HATER...when all i was doing was trying to be HONEST :manny:

her cousin unfortunatly like alot of these guys are simply people whom can't stand the thought of being a "REGULAR" and just working a 9 to 5 or having a non celebrity CAREER....

They see ENTERTAINMENT as the ends to all means...and it just simply is WRONG...

BACK IN MY DAY..it was only a select few that was WORTHY OF BEING CONSIDERED TALENTED ENOUGH FOR SHOW BUSINESS

now SOUNDCLOUD and YOUTUBE got every gottdamn underachieving trapper and fruity looped produced mumble rapper thinking THEY CAN DO THIS RAP SHYT...

and it's pathetic and explains why we have @2manyFCKNrappers

pun intended :lolbron:

but i guess cause the BAR HAS BEEN LOWERED SO MUCH ....they don't have ARTISTS or ALBUMS to let them know...

hey ......MAYBE I SHOULD RETHINK MY OPTIONS :patrice:

just like when i was just turning 21 as an aspiring rapper/producer and i first heard ILLMATIC by NASTY NAS.and a few other GREAT LPs and ARTISTS of 1994...........

right then and there...i got the MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR...that i need to stay my azz in college and find another career path

mrw-when-posts-in-this-sub-reference-being-in-school-andor-living-with-parents-104787.gif

it was the BEST DECISION i made as a young adolescent

insted of wasting my time trying to ROC THE MIC.....i simply developed my skill set in other fields i.e (engineering..drafting..logistics..transportation) along with pursuing my passion for music in a different route by keeping a SIDE HUSTLE as a Promoter/Radio show/ Hip Hop journalist...

and that's the FUKKING PROBLEM....

You can't approach something that so TANGIBLE as the music industry with an ABSTRACT approach breh.... :francis:

this ain't haiku poetry or buddhist meditation...

thats the point @thatdude901 is trying to make........

i don't think he is hating at all....

these are RAPPERS...not folk singers....hell they aint' even PRODUCERS

i could see if it was producers we were talking about...i know plenty of producers whom didn't make thier MARK till they were 30 or above

cause it's abou the SOUND ..not the IMAGE..and the image of a 35 year old rapper still trying to get PUT ON is BAD...VERY BAD :hhh:

These guys need to switch it up...get in other aspects of music..such as engineering or producuing...

AYOTOLLAH didn't get major placements till he was damn thier 4O the game is different for producers...... ....remember he is the cat that produced the epic "MY LIFE" with STYLES P. and PHAROROH MONCH....

it's different...

some of you "rappers" fail to understand this is still the music BUSINESS..no matter how "grassroot" or "artistic" you claim to be

it's about NUMBERS bottom line that is the STANDARD

as a RAPPER in today's commercial market YOU HAVE NO TIME TO BE JUST DOING THINGS BY TRIAL AND ERROR HOPING you MAKE IT JUST BY LIVING OUT YOUR DREAMS
:comeon:

in order to reach that CERTAIN PLATEAU it takes more than just FAITH and HOPE it takes a SOLID BUSINESS MODEL..

and all THE SUCCESFUL ARTISTS you see today are the result of a SOLID BUSINESS MODEL based on great relationships with INVESTORS and a team that was fully dedicated to making sure the artist sees himself as a BRAND

jay z, beyonce, drake, k. lamar , kanye are prime examples of that...

Just like i told all my clients whom i signed when they were young (18, 19, 21)...you have a SHORT WINDOW to make it in....and make sure you make it by the age of 25...

Because in this day and age...the world is full of a bunch of old azz Rapping azz nikkas ...whom failed to do numbers...

while you got these young cats out here who can't even rap...who still do big numbers

that shows you the COMMERCE aspect of Rap far outweighs its cultural significance

I’m talking about how to develop your art. You’re talking business while I’m actually talking art. There are industry standards but the business, overall, is wack, imho. The standard is shyt. Artist standards and development is the Wild West until you’ve dealt enough with gigs and hearing other people, etc.

Art is illusive in general.

We deal with the business because it’s already here and it’s the only way to be known at a high level. Not because it improves our talent or skill.

no sir...your PERSPECTIVE IS WACK...

if you think you can PURSUE ART WITHOUT BUSINESS BEING INVOLVED.....

and that's why sad to say many of you "artists" are unsuccesful..

if it isn't for the business WE WOULD HEAR YOUR FUKKING ART :mindblown:

which is why MAJOR LABELS will always be relevant as well as RADIO STATIONS .......and the overall SELLING OF THE PRODUCT known as MUSIC

And it's not just at the high level breh....

i have one "artist" begging me to assist him...matter of fact he ain't even a fukking rapper...

he is a local harmonica playing blues artist whose actually pretty damn good at his "art" has been booked for major festivals ..sat in with some famous acts during sessions and has a few albums on itunes and cdbaby

but since streaming has evolved as the monster it is......and he never secured a major distribution deal he is having diffuclty retreiving his ROYALTIES (mechanical and publishing) along with the politics of getting local gigs...because so many promoters want him to peform for "FREE"

like he told me the other day........"im tired of this shyt...im a PROFESSIONAL..im not working for free or for humanitarian purposes!!"

and he is fukking right!!!.....he had me look at a contract he recieved for a beach festival in south carolina and they wanted him to perform his set three nights in a row .....and all they were willing to provide is FOOD and LODGING according to what i observed in that document..

i told him TO TURN THIS OFFER DOWN :camby:

just because you're an Artist...don't mean you have to be a STRUGGLING ARTIST

Funny thing is I am actually successful business wise so what exactly are you trying to prove typing all that shyt?

The problem with applying the business model is people WITHOUT talent can pass if they have a decent business model. That’s why I think business is wack.

That’s why you have 30+ year old wack rappers pitching you shyt...

Exactly

You can write and record a mixtape in a day

If you really love "the art" you don't need it to be your living :yeshrug:
shyt it's hard for me to come up with song ideas. I only wrote like 8 songs to my 12 song mixtape. Also, it's hard for me to come up with lyrics, but I know what I want to write about though.

What's the difference? :mjpls:

You can actually gig as a freelance jazz musician at any age, self taught too, I’m talking huge arena shows for platinum selling artists if you’re good enough.

Same goes for being a drummer, guitarist, bass player - no age limit.

:whoa: A RAPPER THOUGH...Meaning the dude out front, holding the microphone. The master of ceremonies. A 30+ year old unknown. Trying to make a career doing that, possibly get a record deal too?

You think this is the same thing? :comeon:
