It's funny that I'm seeing this thread. My breh is going through some shyt and I literally JUST text him, "Breh, I love you. I guarantee we are going to get through the trials and tribulations that we are going through. Stay strong.".

I like that you mentioned this. It's very relevant to my initial question and very important to realize that racists have colored our perception and dictate how we treat each other. So we end up behaving like them.

One is a question of ideology. The other is a question of caring about people whose lives you personally have a stake in.

Then I'd have to correct you on that. If one doesn't have the ideology it would be easy to lack empathy for even those we are close to. The same way whites who we may know may like us, but not be able to empathize with us.

Obviously we agree that empathy is morally superior to apathy for most situations.

But the question essentially was, "Is apathy okay..." And the answer is yeah, it's fine.

I think dudes hate Russell for wifing a single mother. I cannot speak on that. But he seems like a good dude and is trying his best. I may have been too late for the Kobe slander. I don't think I've ever seen that.

You should absolutely show empathy for other black men. We are at the very bottom of the totem pole in society hierarchy. A young black man in my city went missing 8 days ago and they just now announcing this on the news. Even though search parties and responders were actively looking for him for days the local media did not see a need to report it and yet the minute a cac dials 911 to report a missing person it's all over the news
