Maybe. I ain't even a huge fan of jcole or kendrick like that but it's kinda hard for me to imagine that they're not planting seeds to make up and comers step their game up.

Then again drakes presence may still be a problem

the irony of the bolded words.

theyre not making anybody step anything up breh. you can find random dudes on the block that would rip them to shreds.

Music is always changing and black people are generally the innovators. I understand being nostalgic, but the youth will always push genres (for better or worse). The best thing is to remind them why hip hop history matters, not try to bring back some boom bap revival or belittle up and comers. Some kids can't get down with the texture of 36 chambers and some older heads can't listen to future or thug for similar reasons.

I don't think this thread is about boom bap or any style of rap in particular.

I was under the impression that this was just about quality music.

1. Its not, that was an example I used because the tone of the thread.
2. I understand some opinions are more informed than others, but "quality music" is subjective.

Look at Jazz. As it was commodified and made mainstream i'm sure purists were uncomfortable with certain directions it was taking. If John Coltrane were to shyt on Miles Davis' "bytches Brew" and call for a "resurgence" for jazz i'd write him off as being old and bitter.

The industry already figured out on two occasions how to play the nostalgia game and limit it to a small pr run and maybe some tv specials.
So, I don't see new bboys or bgirls getting made anymore.

That's because Young Thug is a mumbler. He says nothing special whatsoever and like his fans say, "He's as good as his beat"

j cole is a fake deep fakkit for people who think Big L and Wu tang are that real underground hip hop. you kno nothing. NOTHING!
