@CopiousX why are you GMB?
I value control of outcomes. I don't like playing a lottery with my life.

"Perhaps you have heard that half of all marriages end in divorce. That statement is not far off. Nearly 45 percent of married couples eventually divorce.

In the 80s, the divorce rate was closer to 50 percent. So, the divorce rate has declined over the past 40 years, but only by about five percent." -quoted from random lawfirm website.

This is my issue with it. Marriage is an investment. Would you invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into a 50/50 bet? God forbid you are demonized to your own offspring afterwards.:francis:

There are rare exceptions to this where it's totally worth the risk. For example, there are specific occupations/social groups where you will be net-positive even after a divorce ( POTUS, senate, rotary clubs, military officers, banking, etc). But these are rarities.

Most people jump into their marriages telling themselves that they are that one lucky, magical exception to statistics. They desperately cling to this wishful thinking until it's their turn to be served divorce papers. I also don't buy that philosophy of picking the "right one" either because the vast majority of people in divorce court thought they had the "the right one" also.

I am a realist, Dave.

Nope. I'm not convinced we are going to beat climate change. I'm not convinced that the powers that be are interested in breaking the economic stranglehold that the 1% has put the rest of us in.

I want to set my child up for success and right now if I can't even afford a house to raise them in or pay for ever escalating tuition, he/she will be doomed to a life that is inferior to my own. Thats not fair to do.

Now if I meet the right woman, I will probably come around on that stance. If shes really thorough like that, I can be convinced that as a team we can set our offspring up as best as anyone can in a decaying world. They may be part of the generation that smashes away the asteroid of shyt that is coming our way.

I wanna have kids but not until I'm married, so probably mid-late 30s or early 40s. I know the issues black kids from single homes struggle with, I was one of them :yeshrug: my parents were married when they conceived me but were already in the divorce process when I was born.

My brother got married at 35 & had his first child at 36 when he was financially stable & doing well for himself so I'm aspiring to do the same

Yea I plan on it soon. Me and my girl been together 2 years now and we've discussed it as we're both 34 years old.

Also my unc been battling prostate cancer and seeing his wife and kids take care of him as he can't even walk without getting tired and just having conversations about life with him has made me want a family even more

The thing is you have to have. great mother leaving a good woman because she don’t want kids can easily backfire

You marry a woman but she can’t have kids or she gets post party depression or she ignores you for the kids and no sex

@CopiousX I mentioned I want a wife and 4 kids. How much money do I need to be making for them to be comfortable?
